Levi’s lips crashed into mine, devastating me with their passion. Every part of me focused on him alone. His mouth and tongue devoured me, his hands held me securely, and his scent surrounded me in an intoxicating aroma that made my knees wobble. Nothing else existed in my world but Levi.

He pulled back slightly, and my head followed him.

He cupped my face. “You can resist him because you belong to me.”

His golden eyes bored into mine with enough intensity to set the world on fire.

I nodded slowly, taking a deep, ragged breath. His gaze calmed and centred me. Everything else fell away until there was nothing except me and Levi. His finger trailed down the side of my face and my teeth bit into my bottom lip. Desire bubbled in my stomach in an effervescent cascade.

A rap at the door startled me and broke me from the spell that Levi cast over me. He pressed a soft kiss to my lips and turned to stalk to the door.

Radar was on the other side. “That crazy fucking vamp is throwing orders around. You better come before Spencer stabs him”.

Levi’s shoulders tensed. “Give me two minutes and I’ll be there.”

I pursed my lips to prevent the smile, my hand finding the curve at the bottom of his back. “We’re coming now, Radar. Levi’s just sulking because he’d hoped Castus had been caught in a sunbeam.”

“A man can dream,” Levi muttered, throwing me a sour look that resulted in me nudging him. He was such a grump some days. “Or trips and impales himself in a stake factory.”

The reception hall was filled with vampires. Castus stood on the stage area at the top, his hands clasped behind his back, and his face pinched with anger. His gaze found me when I wandered into the room long after the others had obeyed his summons. I wanted to step back when his eyes glowed a deep crimson, but Levi entered the room, and his energy stabilised me.

“Good of you to finally join us,” Castus hissed. “But I cannot seem to find your sister in the crowd.”

Levi’s hand touched the bottom of my spine to remind me that he alone held power over me.

“The hellspawn stormed the castle, and I lost sight of her. I believed that you had taken her with you to safety, since she was under your protection.”

His gaze narrowed. He stepped down from the stage and stalked toward me with his hands bunched into fists at his side. “What are you implying?”

Every single vampire in this room knew that he abandoned them to save his own ass.

Levi stepped in front of me. “You must be the missing coven leader. I’m Levi, alpha of this facility, and the wolf that saved what remained of your coven when you left them to be slaughtered by the hellspawn. I’d like to say it was a pleasure to meet you, but, well, it isn’t.”

He folded his arms across his broad chest to create an impenetrable wall between me and Castus.

Levi was in full asshole mood right now, getting in Castus’ face and deliberately provoking him.

The ancient vampire stopped and studied him intently. “Where do I know you from?”

Our peace was fragile, with danger lurking around every political corner. He’d bitten me when I first enlisted and saw Levi in my recent memories. Kimber had drawn him and me together in the forest. He knew exactly who Levi was and had decided to play dumb.

“This is the first time we’ve met,” Levi said coolly. “I would have brokered our alliance with you personally, but you’d already left when I arrived.”

Castus’ jaw ticked. “That intrigues me. Why did you come to save my coven?”

Every nerve in my body screamed a warning. My muscles tensed as I anticipated Castus manipulating Levi in his centuries old game.

Levi’s head canted slightly to the side. “I would have thought the bigger question would have been why did you not save them?”

Silence so loud it was deafening filled the room.

“But to answer your question, I have been studying the hellspawn creatures for a few months and my team tracked their migration. If our species are to survive, we need to stop fighting each other and start fighting our common enemy.”

Castus turned his toxic attention to me. “I brought another coven with me to push those things back from my castle. I am here to bring you all home.”

Home… The only place I felt at ease was in Levi’s embrace. He was my home and security. I forced myself to stand still even though I was trembling on the inside.

“We’ve been training with the lycans to form combat units,” I replied in a low voice.
