I pushed his arm with my free hand. “I know that, but…”
“I feel the same,” he replied, and I froze. “I can’t explain it, but I sense your emotions.”
I learnt a long time ago that the forest had eyes and ears where I least expected them. My feelings were vulnerable and raw right now. He was right; I didn’t want to put what had happened into words. Instead, I wanted to experience it in its purity.
The cool night air made me shiver, and Levi tugged me against him. Lycans were naturally warm from their metabolism. His touch felt protective, his arms forming a barrier of safety around me.
My fingers skimmed down his chest, touching his skin. “I miss your fur.”
He huffed out a laugh and squeezed me tighter. “Nothing says romance like a black furry pelt.”
“He’s warm and comfortable to sleep on.”
“I’ll take your word for that as you’re the only one who has lay on either man or beast.” He rolled his eyes at me.
My finger traced a pattern over the muscles on his chest. “Are you seriously trying to tell me you’ve never had sex before?”
Levi stared at me, unblinking. “I’m only twenty-one.”
My head rested on his chest as I studied his expression. “Everyone else in my study year has had multiple sexual partners. You can’t compare yourself to me. I’m weird or damaged.”
His eyebrow lifted. “And what am I?”
I swallowed, his gaze boring into me leaving a fiery trail. This conversation was beginning to make me feel silly and uncomfortable.
“You’re tall and strong and handsome. Ugh!” I pursed my lips together. “You must know that you’re panty melting smoking hot.”
“Panty melting?” He laughed, his chest moving under my chin as it echoed up from his belly. “That sounds positively naughty.”
“Yeah, do you not smell the scent of female panties melting in arousal as you walk through your pack?”
“Now you come to mention it, I did wonder what the burning was. I thought it was the campfire.” He winked at me and my cheeks burned in response.
I pouted and shook my head at him. “You’re being a dick.”
He grabbed my wrist when I went to move away, cheeks flushing with embarrassment. He rolled me onto my back and pinned my wrists to the ground to peer down at me, the tips of his claws biting into my flesh. “Just to clarify what’s happening here. I have never had sex with anyone before you, whether their panties were singed or not. Women do not throw themselves at me, because I have an older better-looking brother who is more than happy to satisfy their every need. I’m the weird awkward one in the family who likes to spend time alone in nature meeting vampires.”
I chewed the side of my cheek, staring at his chest until he gripped my chin and forced me to look at him.
“I have no idea what your life is like, just as you haven’t seen mine. You, little vampire, are the sexiest thing that has ever jumped out of a tree and bit me. I’ve never been overly attracted to anyone before you, but with you all I wanted to do from the first moment I saw you was kiss you.”
My lips curved up into a shy smile, my heart thudding heavily in my chest. “Is that what you were trying to do when you bit me?”
“Yeah, I guess I missed your lips.” His head descended until our breathes mingled.
“I’m glad you figured out how it worked,” I teased, wanting to feel his mouth claim me in ownership again.
“Mmmm.” His lips skimmed over mine in a gentle kiss that was as delicate as butterfly wings beating on my skin. “I’m a slow learner, but when I work something out there’s no stopping me.”
His mouth devoured mine in a long kiss that drugged me until I was wrapped in his arms and scent, drawn to him by that invisible force that I couldn’t fight.
Eventually, he drew back, my head following his. “If we continue, we’ll end up having sex again. As much as I want that, I’d planned to show you the black jaguar tonight.”
He tucked my unruly hair behind my ear.
It was his tiny gestures of affection that I’d never experienced before that made my stomach flip and my heart race. I’d been starving emotionally until he began feeding me delicacies that I now craved.
I sat up, my finger tracing down the centre of his chest. He shivered, his eyes coming up to meet mine.
