“He’s been in my head since I was a child,” I muttered, staring at the ceiling.

Levi moved to peer down at me. “The accords have been signed brokering peace between our people. Dominic holds a lot more power than Castus and has gone to speak to the vampire council.”

I finally met his eyes and that voodoo magic that they contained washed over me.

“They can’t take you away from me now,” he whispered.

Every muscle in my body stilled.

“Everything I’ve done has always been for you, Tasha. We would have met in Paris and lived half a life constantly looking over our shoulders.”

I didn’t know what to say. My heart beat rapidly in my chest and my skin felt too tight.

“I didn’t want stolen moments with you, Tasha. I’m greedy and possessive, meaning the only thing I would settle for was forever.”

“What are you saying, Levi?”

He blew hot and cold all the time, leaving me confused and vulnerable. There were times when his heated golden gaze bored into mine that all the pieces of my existence fused together, and I knew where I belonged. But there were other times that I felt cold and lonely, isolated from him because he froze me out.

His lips twitched in the faintest trace of a smile. “I’m saying that I fell in love with a crazy vamp who jumps out of trees and bites unsuspecting wolves a long time ago. For her alone, I found a way to broker peace between our kind.”

“But you ignore me…”

His thumb that had been caressing my lip stopped the rest of my words. “Some days the only way I can control my wolf is by suppressing my emotions or he’ll rip the throat out of any threat he perceives to you.”

I continued to stare at him, knots forming in my stomach.

“I’m saying that when I tell you that you’re mine, I mean in body, mind, and soul. If that hellspawn is touching your mind, then that makes him my primary enemy.”

I shook my head slowly. “He’s too dangerous.”

Levi’s forehead pressed against mine, his nose touching the tip of my nose, his breath fanning my mouth. “I would walk into Hell itself for you, Tasha. Surely you know that?”

There were times I did, but he held so much inside himself that most of the time I was left confused. My eyes fluttered closed at the intensity of his stare.

“I thought I did…”

His lips on mine stopped my words. Instead of talking, he let me feel his emotions tumbling through our connection, scorching into me, and burning a path directly into my soul. Nothing else mattered at times like this, only Levi. His tongue lavished mine with attention, teasing me until I moaned into his mouth.

Levi drew back, his lips pursing together for a moment. “Wolves don’t select their mates lightly, Tasha. They are the other half of our soul, the piece that completes us. What I feel for you goes beyond love. When I have to leave you, there is a physical pain in my chest, and when I return, I can breathe again.”

“All I’ve ever wanted was you,” I confessed in a small voice.

His fingers wrapped around to hold the back of my neck in a gesture that soothed but dominated me. “You had me from our very first bite.”

My mind flashed back to that first night when he held me even though we both thought we were dying. His touch calmed me from the beginning.

He settled himself on the bed beside me, his heat infusing into me and his fingers tracing up and down my back. My leg curved over his as I settled myself on his chest. His heart beat steadily under my ear, comforting and centring me. None of the voices echoed in my head to taunt and call to me. There was only Levi and the beat of his heart.

“Why did you lock me in this room?” I finally asked.

A deep chuckle rumbled from his chest. “There was no way you were wandering this base with the risk of that demented pervert Castus arriving. He’s currently being escorted from the base, so it’s safe for you to leave the room again and wander freely.”

My brow furrowed. “He’s my coven master.”

“Not anymore,” Levi said. “I had the accords worded in a very specific way that Dominic and Castus didn’t notice. When a lycan claims a mate, all their previous allegiances are severed. We incorporated sections of lycan law into the accords. Technically, you belong to me.”

Pushing myself up to stare down at him, I arched my eyebrow. “Is that so?”
