His laugh washed over me in waves as Xavier rolled me onto my back and settled himself in the cradle of my thighs. “Baby, you blow me right and you can have anything you want. You are crazy, but I love you anyway.”

I pouted and he pressed a hard kiss on the pout. “Will you love me when I look like a beach ball with arms and legs?”

His lips twitched. “Considering that you are suffering as a result of my penis invasion, yes.”

A grin spread over my lips. “Are you admitting this is your fault?”

Xavier rubbed the tip of his nose against mine. “If it puts a smile on your face, I’ll shoulder the blame.”

He dragged me out of the bed and made me squeal as he backed me into the bathroom.

“You need to get washed because the women who are going to make you irresistible are coming soon, and Megan is already studying hair designs that she wants.”

“Scrub my back?” I asked, tugging the waistband of his training bottoms.

“You better believe it. Get that gorgeous ass in there and prepare to be ravished!”

By the time he was finished, I needed a second shower.

***

A hairdresser and beautician had arrived at the spare apartment downstairs to perfect our hair and make-up. The men were wandering around in our penthouse apartment dressed in perfect black suits that made them look deliciously dark and dangerous. Xavier, in his well-tailored suit, set my panties on fire.

Kohl pencils terrified me because I always made myself look like a panda. The make-up artist made me look sultry and wanton, my eyes smoky and mysterious. My hair cascaded down my back and was lifted at the sides. The bright-red lipstick was a shade I would never have had the nerve to try on my own.

The woman who stared back at me in the mirror no longer looked like me, but a beautiful stranger. My dress was still hiding upstairs in our bedroom. The plain black dress I currently wore would be substituted before we headed out when I went to put my coat on.

Xavier was fiddling with his right cufflink when we arrived at the penthouse. He could never get it in properly. I deftly took over without a word and he shot me that lopsided grin that told me he was mocking himself.

He grabbed me at the hips and tugged me forward. “I think I’ll stay at home. My wife is smoking hot tonight!”

I wrinkled my nose at him but the way he ran his gaze over me as he bit his bottom lip made the temperature in the room go up several degrees.

“Put her down or you’ll smudge her make-up,” Megan intervened in the background.

“I wouldn’t mind smudging that lipstick,” Xavier muttered, bouncing his eyebrows suggestively. “You can make a wish if you want.”

“Come on, Romeo,” Ash said. “We need to go soon, or we’ll not make it in time to brief the staff.”

“I just need to grab my coat!” I wandered into the bedroom and Megan followed me, knowing I was going to do a quick change. Her other outfit was in my wardrobe as well.

There was only time for a quick peek at my dress before I covered it with my loose black coat. It made me feel sexy and I couldn’t wait for Xavier to see it. He was either going to lock me in the toilets or ravish me. I was definitely hoping for the latter of the two, considering I’d booked us a room. Megan had also booked her and Jordan a room. Neither of us cared that it was open to paying customers tonight, our credit cards were just as valid as the next person.

“Ready?” Xavier popped his head around the door, concern etched on his face.

“Yeah, just making sure my make-up is still okay.”

He held out his hand and I intertwined my fingers through his.

Xavier had booked a limousine to take us to the new club so we could all travel together. I relaxed against him as they chatted about all the tiny details that needed dealt with when we arrived. We stopped after about twenty minutes. Ash got out of the limousine and returned with a stunningly beautiful woman. Obviously, he wasn’t attending the opening alone. I would have preferred his guest to have been Xavier’s cousin Lucrezia, but it wasn’t my business.

Carly was a bubbly, nonstop-talking machine. She asked constant questions and then interrupted you when you answered her. Megan and I shot each other a look before falling into silence.

After five minutes quiet, her eyes fell on the rings on my hand, and the corresponding band on Xavier’s hand. “Oh, my god!” Carly exclaimed. “Don’t tell me that Xavier Bartholomew is off the menu. Hearts will be breaking in The Twilight Rooms tonight!”

My back straightened and I stared at her. “You do realise that your date is Ash?” I enquired.

Ash waved off my concerns. “Carly is one of the subs in The Twilight Rooms. We have an arrangement for events like this.”
