Xavier rolled his eyes at me. “If you get any more perfect, you’ll be stuffed and mounted in the corner.”
I deliberately chose to misunderstand him. “Fucking pervert, always trying to mount people.”
Xavier winked at me and grinned. “We’ve been through too much for you to embarrass me, and let’s be honest, we’ve been involved in kinkier stuff than that a few years ago.”
Yeah, before the Twilight and Midnight Rooms, we had embarked on a journey of sexual discovery to try every pleasure known to man and then some. Little embarrassed me anymore, and after all that, I found myself craving just lying in bed as the sun started to peek into our bedroom with Megan sleeping on top of me, her golden curls set on fire by the rays of the sun.
Fuck my life. I was pussy whipped.
“Okay, let’s divide and conquer,” Ash announced. “Jordan, you come with me and help with the rest of Dad’s shit. You can give me your opinion on some of the stuff I was going to shred. Xavier, get everything out of your house that puts a target on Cassandra. We meet back here in two hours. Ready?”
“Who died and made you God?” I grumbled.
He grinned and bounced his eyebrows at me. “God was a little tired after the whole universe building, so he took a few days off and handed me the reins.”
“Fucker,” I said, stomping past him.
“Love you, too!” Ash called.
I swore the guy had a death wish. First, he put a gun to Lucas’ head and claimed his favourite daughter. Now, he was in charge of the world since Matteus was no longer here to claim that role.
There were too many secrets hiding, just waiting to jump out and accost us when we least expected it. I hated not knowing all the angles, since I relied on that to keep us all safe. All I could do was focus on Megan and let everyone else look after their loved ones.
I stilled as I swung my leg over my bike. I’d never had a loved one before; it was a strange sensation that thawed my ice block of a heart. If anyone dared to put a finger on one golden curl, I would slit their throat.

Chapter Six
Megan
Gargamel, aka Kerri, gave Flynn her death glare. He worked with Jordan and had a firm understanding of the law, but he was aloof and more than a little unapproachable.
“I thought Jordan Berkeley would be accompanying you,” she said, her eyebrow rising as she once again ran her disapproving gaze over Flynn.
“He’s busy and sent me instead,” Flynn snapped. He was around six foot two with jet black hair and green eyes. The man emanated an air of danger with the way he prowled around as if he was a caged beast ready to rip someone’s head off.
“Jordan is a criminal barrister, so Flynn is more suited to matrimonial law,” I assured Kerri.
His eyebrow arched up but he didn’t comment. He was the type of man who would be impossible to tie down. In fairness, I thought that about Jordan as well in the past, and now he happily wandered around our home in his boxers in the morning with his hair tousled and hanging in his eyes.
A man in a tailored suit certainly made my lady garden wet, but Jordan in a domestic setting with only me to appreciate him was an entirely different situation. He made my pulse race and my panties constantly damp and tight.
We set ourselves up in the conference room, with Flynn sitting bored beside me. “I know nothing about matrimonial law apart from how to avoid the first part of the process,” he almost growled.
“Then you can give my clients advice at the end on how to avoid making the same mistake again.” I gave him my best professional smile and he scowled. “Are you always so grumpy?”
“I don’t like being stuck inside. I prefer to live my life in the fast lane.”
“Well, today you have to stay in the slow lane with me. Kerri tends to bring lots of coffee and she takes orders for pastries and donuts.”
He scowled again and I suppressed the craving to giggle. “I bet she injects it with laxatives,” he said in a low tone.
I couldn’t hide my laugh this time. “She terrifies me because from the moment she arrived at the desk in front of my office, she’s judged me. No matter what I do is never good enough and she disapproves of everything.”
His eyebrows shot up. “Just give her the boot. Better yet, tell Jay she’s annoying you and she’ll disappear forever.”
My eyes widened. “You mean—” I slid my finger across my throat.
