He moved my hair over my shoulder so he could turn my head toward him. “No more misunderstandings, Megan. Sometimes I go inside my head when I need to organise everything. I have new identities coming for us, we can move anywhere you want in the world.”
“Then I choose here,” I replied. “This is the home I’ve always wanted and I don’t want to leave it, Jordan. When I was little in that home, I used to draw a house just like this and imagined living here with a family.”
He kissed my neck.
“I don’t want to leave here. We are the family I always craved, Jordan. Please don’t make me leave.”
His head rested against the top of my spine. “You’re killing me, Megan. I’m trying to keep you safe.”
“And I trust you to do that here.” I leaned into him. “Please.”
“One word from me and we’re going. I’m not taking any more risks.”
I squealed, spinning around to press kisses to his face. “Now get this plug out of my ass,” I demanded. “Or next time we can shove it up your—”
He stopped me with a kiss that curled my toes.
This was my home, and I knew that no matter what, Jordan would keep me safe here. I buried all my fears and crossed my fingers that the nagging feeling that someone was watching us was wrong. This was my happy ending and I refused to give it up for anyone.

Chapter Ten
Jordan
I was normally the calm and logical member of our trio, but Megan made me think with the wrong head. All it took was for her to peer up at me with those huge blue eyes and I made terrible decisions.
The type that could get us all killed.
She moved around in the garden, leaving nuts for the squirrel who happily followed her from branch to branch. There wasn’t a male with a pulse, either human or rodent, who could resist her. She smiled up at Simon and a dagger of jealousy stabbed into me.
I needed to get my emotions in check or Dante would win. Or possibly the squirrel. Who knew anymore?
This was why Grampa told me that I should only ever marry for position and to gain heirs. Love was an unnecessary emotion that left a weakness for others to exploit.
“Are you listening to me?” Xavier demanded.
“Yeah, you want me to move into your house until the threat is over,” I replied. “The problem is, Megan is refusing to go anywhere as she likes this house.”
“Put her ass in the car and drive her here. Cassandra can talk some sense into her.” He sounded exasperated. I knew exactly how he felt since Megan was constantly tying me in knots.
“Any progress with the woman?” I diverted the conversation away from me.
“The doctor said she had undergone some of the same training that those women we rescued from Matteus had. I ran her fingerprints through the missing persons’ database. She was lifted from a small, sleepy seaside village two years ago. It appears she’s undergone extensive training that has left her brainwashed and unable to function without someone giving her commands.”
“Fuckers,” I snapped.
“She kept asking if you were hurt because she would be punished if you were,” Xavier said. “What the fuck is going on, Jay?”
“I wish I knew.” I sighed and moved to another window to continue watching Megan. “My assumption is that Dante launched the attack since he sent the goon to the hospital. I have no idea why he has the hots for me and wants me saved for him alone. Who knows with a psycho like him?”
“We need to rethink this, Jay. No one needs someone like Dante with a hard-on for them.”
“That image is more than a little disturbing,” I pointed out. “Now I have that in my fucking head with the rest of the crap in there.”
“You’re welcome.” Xavier chuckled.
“If he was twenty years younger, we could have put him in a room with Grampa and let the two of them fight it out since both of them have a do not touch order on me.” I frowned when Simon jumped onto Megan’s shoulder. The fucker was putting moves on my woman.
