I nodded quickly. “I won’t.”

Jack had seduced me again that night. This time, he casually grabbed my thigh as we sat on the couch, smiling as he glanced over at me. I smiled back, biting my lip, knowing he would like that. I was getting very good at knowing what he wanted me to do.

“Come here,” he patted his lap.

I quickly sat up and then sat back down on his lap, straddling him. He hurriedly lifted my shirt up and off and exposed my breasts, licking his lips before putting his mouth to one at a time. I closed my eyes and moaned, resting my hands atop his shoulders. I could feel his hands reaching behind me, then he cupped his hands on my ass.

“Grind on me, Hana,” he ordered, then put his mouth back to my breasts.

I quickly started to grind my hips on him, flipping my hair, putting on a good show. The guilt returned once I realized I was getting wet, feeling his erection from underneath his pants. I vaulted my thoughts, pushing them back, letting my mind go blank again.

I slept horribly again. Of course, I told Jack that I had slept like a baby. His happy smirk slowly faded as he brushed my lips with his fingertips while we lay in bed.

“I wish you really did love me, Hana,” he admitted quietly, not looking me in the eye.

I didn’t know how to respond. He looked crushed.

“I do love you, Jack,” I finally replied, putting my hand up to his face, then gently pressed my lips onto his.

He went along with it and then flipped me on my back, quickly fucking me.

Chapter 32

“You look gorgeous, sweetheart,” Jack smiled at me as I emerged into the living room with my matte red lips, my hair in a messy bun and all dressed up to go have dinner with Emily and Adam.

“Thank you,” I smiled shyly. “You look great as well.”

He flashed his dimples at me, his hands in his pockets while he watched me. Each day there was a moment that I forgot I was held there against my will with him. Now was that moment.

“I don’t need to remind you what’s at stake here, do I?” he reminded me, the moment vanishing.

I shook my head quickly. “No. I understand. I won’t do anything wrong,” I assured him.

And that was my plan. I had to make him believe I would do anything he told me to.

We exited his apartment building hand in hand and headed towards the train station. The night’s chilly air filled my lungs as I inhaled slowly, grateful to see the outside world again. I wondered if the people passing us by knew that Jack was forcing me to be his compliant girlfriend. I also wondered what would happen if I screamed for help in the middle of the crowded subway station.

We agreed to meet them in Brooklyn Heights near the promenade at a restaurant not too far from Adam’s place. Jack squeezed my hand tighter once we spotted Emily and Adam sitting in a circular booth with chairs in the corner, animatedly chatting. My heart began to race and I felt a lump form in my throat yet again, the relief of seeing Emily flooding through me.

“Show time, Hana,” Jack whispered into my ear right before we approached them.

“Hana!” Emily shot up from the booth, her arms outstretched to me.

“Emily,” I grabbed her in my arms quickly and held onto her tight.

Don’t cry, don’t cry, I repeated to myself over and over. She finally let go of me and turned to Jack, giving him a quick hug. Adam gave me a pat on the shoulder as he said hello.

“You two look so cute together,” Emily beamed, staring at us with her hands to her cheeks.

I could tell that she genuinely was happy for us. At that moment I wished we had come up with some sort of code word, or some sort of look, if one of us were ever in trouble.Who would have ever thought this would happen?

“Thank you, Em,” I quickly smiled, then put my arm around Jack’s waist. He reciprocated, looking down at me and smiling, pleased with me.

“Let’s sit! I’m starving,” Emily quickly sat down.

I looked up at Jack, waiting to see where he wanted me to sit.
