Michael quickly smiled. “Good. You can take the heat from your co-workers?” he raised his eyebrows.
He knew very well how the ladies in the office would react: they would be bitter, catty, and very jealous; I smiled at the thought.
“Oh yeah,” I wrinkled up my nose playfully.
Michael shook his head at me playfully. “Alright. Let’s go then,” he ordered as we started to walk again, turning the corner to work.
My heart dropped when I saw Evan and Suzie in front of the building, about to walk in but glancing over in our direction; they both took a double look as they noticed me and Michael. I bit my lip to hide my smile at their reaction, their eyes wide and their mouths slightly open.Well, that happened sooner than I thought it would. I looked up at Michael as they hurriedly walked inside, giggling a little as he smiled down at me.
“Well, now the whole office will know before we even walk in,” he joked.
I shrugged nonchalantly. “Good,” I teased.
We stopped in front of the building and Michael let go of my hand, putting his cool fingers on my chin. My heart still pounded at the way his intense grey eyes stared into mine.
“I love you, Han,” he said quietly, a smile lingering on his face.
I gulped, still amazed that this beautiful creature loved me.
“I love you too,” I breathed.
Michael leaned his face closer to mine, giving me a quick, tender kiss, and smiled before he held open the door for me.
The crowded elevator took me and Michael to our floor and as the doors pinged open, my heart pounded. We walked into the reception area, the sweet Maude smiling and greeting both of us, seemingly not aware of what was going on.Maybe Evan and Suzie haven’t said anything yet?We walked into the office as I shrugged my coat off and looked up at Michael who was being his cool and reserved self, scanning the room and probably searching for my co-workers reaction to us. I followed his eyes and everyone’s attention was on us as they hung out around their cubicles, talking amongst themselves.
“Get to work,” Michael whispered, an amused grin on his face before he walked into his office.
Oh yeah, he gets to hide out in his office while I face the scrutiny.I kept my eyes on the floor as I made it to my cubicle, Cassie off somewhere else, and I quickly unpacked my Macbook and set my coat on the back of my chair, ready to dive into work.
“Hey, Hana,” I heard Cassie greet me with an unusually high pitch.
I turned and she had a cup of coffee in her hand, eyeing me enthusiastically as she leaned against our cubicle.
“Hey,” I said with raised eyebrows, a smile still lingering on my face.
I turned to sit and open my Macbook but I could feel Cassie standing beside me.
“Where ya been?” she asked curiously.
I looked up at her and shrugged. “I was getting over a bug,” I easily lied.
She nodded and set down her coffee on her desk as she sat on her chair and I thought it would be the end of her questions, but I could see her facing me and staring through the reflection on my laptop’s screen - it was fucking creepy.
“Hey, Han,” Evan popped up on his side of the cubicle, his arms hanging on the top as he smiled down at me.
I sighed.I’m not gonna get any work done today, am I?
“Hey,” I smiled politely up at him.
“You’re back, huh?”
The whole beating around the bush thing was painstakingly obvious.
I looked up and nodded. “Yup,” I answered.
“You’ve been missing a lot of days,” he observed, looking over at Cassie with a grin.
I rolled my eyes as I stared at my laptop, ignoring him.Where is he going with this?
