Taking a seat at his desk, my father chuckles, “Yeah, but what I didn’t tell her was I’d put her out of our boundaries and right into Tati’s. Can you imagine what she’d do with her knowing she’s trying to split up mates.”

Shaking my head in amusement because everyone knows that Tati is not a she-wolf to mess with. She is a magnificent Luna and a better friend you would never find. She is, however, a heck of a fighter, being taught by the best over several years now. I don’t know her as well as I would like, and I will rectify that as I need to be on friendly terms with all the Alphas and Lunas, in our small part of the Kingdom.

Later that day, I thank everyone in the kitchen for the meal, and notice Savannah is elbow deep in a large sink. I can’t help but smirk to myself as it seems she is going to have many of the hated jobs in the kitchen until she proves her worth.

Walking outside, I head for the training area, and stand watching the drill, noting who is doing well and who is struggling. Warrior Dixon, who is our Chief Warrior, is giving Ember tips on how to take down Eloise, but she’s not cottoningon all that well, as she is for the second time while I’ve been watching, slammed onto her back and pinned down.

“Come on, Ember, jump up. Don’t stay down. Keep springing back onto your feet and getting back into it.”

Ember struggles onto her feet, giving Warrior Dixon a filthy look as she does so before screaming at the top of her lungs and lunging at Eloise who in turn spins, lifts her arm and elbows Ember in the face, knocking her out cold.

“I’m sorry, Warrior Dixon, I just reacted. It’s been my homework all week, and it was just instinct to follow through,” Eloise panics out, before bending and checking Ember.

“Don’t worry about it, Eloise. Ember has to learn, and these are hard lessons, but I may give her a bat and let her hit any enemies with that instead of actual fighting.” Warrior Dixon chuckles at his own comment, and Eloise giggles.

Stepping forward, I chuckle to myself. “You have your hands full with Ember, Warrior Dixon. Do you think she’ll ever make the grade?”

“Unlikely, but she is fast on her feet so if we are attacked I’ve told her to make sure all nursing she-wolves, pups and elderly get to the packhouse. She can outrun most of the pack, so her ability would be best used that way.”

Nodding in agreement, I look down as Ember starts to come around and Eloise helps her to her feet. “Come on, Ember, let's get you inside for a drink.”

Warrior Dixon, and I watch the two she-wolves walk to the packhouse before turning to study the rest of the pack training. Discussing how the training is progressing, and the percent of casualties we could expect from the pack members I amwatching, if we were to be attacked. All-in-all, we have work to do to get everyone at the ready, and I’m thinking it’s a high possibility that the five packs in our part of the Kingdom will end up going to war with the no-man’s-land rogues. If they have themselves a viable Alpha as leader then we cannot throw away any chance to be ready for war.

My mind wanders to Taria, and how I’m going to keep her safe. She’s going to have to fight, and she’s going to have to be good at it. She’ll need to be as feisty as her mother has been, and I know she’s got it in her, we just have to bring it out.

Chapter 2

TARIA

My first stay and learning experience was going to be with Luna Tati and Alpha Gabe of the Wolfsfoot Pack, but they have something pending and won’t have the time right now. I’m at the Blackshadow Pack and following Luna Hope, who is showing, or rather teaching me, how she rules as Luna to the pack.

Walking into the dining room, I quickly take a bowl of oatmeal, drizzle it with honey, and sit at an empty table. I am trying not to take advantage of Luna Hope and Alpha Connell’s kindness, allowing me to be here and learn all I can.

Gamzin, the Delta of the pack, takes a seat across from me, and I grin when I see his plate piled high with pancakes, breakfast muffins, scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast.

“I know what you’re thinking, but I’m a growing wolf.” Delta Gamzin chuckles, and I’m sure that’s more for his amusement than mine.

“It’s plenty to get you started for the day. Do you have a mid-morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and later, the main meal?” I ask, grinning because that would really be one heck of a lot of food for anyone to eat.

“How did you know that? Have you been speaking with Chief Warrior Oscar?”

“No, I have hardly spoken with anyone yet,” I admit, but watch as he shovels food into his mouth as I responded.

He eats a lot of food.Maya, my wolf, speaks by mind linking.

‘He does, and I think he’s going to be amusing, too,’ I reply to her. I can see she’s sitting in the back of my mind, watching Delta Gamzin closely.

Looking up at me as I place the spoon in my bowl, Delta Gamzin grins. “You’ll need more than that to eat once the training starts or you’ll be passing out with hunger.”

He’s right, we need to eat more. We will use more energy, so burn more of what we eat. We can hunt and I’ll eat more rabbits.Maya chuckles to herself as she lies down in the back of my mind, resting her head on her front paws. I quickly eat while thinking about what the day may be like.

“Morning, Taria.”

Turning as I respond, “Good Morning,” I give Luna Hope and Alpha Connell a small smile.

“We’ll be walking around the pack this morning, so make sure you are ready in around twenty minutes.”

“I’ll be ready Luna Hope.”
