Colt paled and he pointed to the bathroom before turning on his heel and disappearing.

I waited for the bathroom door to click closed before walking to the door to my room and opening it. “Hey!” I said, smiling at Atlas who had his arms crossed over his chest. “You okay?”

One eyebrow lifted. “Why you in here? Thought you’d be out there lettin’ your hair down.”

“I was just dropping my purse off and putting some lippie on,” I lied. “Are you all back now?”

“Yip,” he stated, nodding up the corridor. “Best you get out there. You’re missin’ all the fun.” His eyes flicked up and over my shoulder, studying the room behind me. “You alone?”

My brow furrowed. “Yeah. Why?”

“Just feel like there’s someone in there,” he muttered before shrugging. “But obviously my spidey senses are in overdrive. Must be all the strangers in the bar.” His eyes met mine and he grinned. “Come on. I’ll walk you up.”

Resigned to the fact I’d have to go with him, I went to walk out of the room.

“Aren’t you forgettin’ somethin’?” he asked knowingly.

I cocked my head. “What?”

“Lock your door,” he ordered gently. “Place is full’a people we don’t know well. Can’t be too careful.”

I swept a hand down my outfit. “I’m not taking a purse out. Where would I put my key?”

“Behind the bar,” Atlas suggested.

With a sigh, I went back into my room and grabbed my keys before walking out again and locking my door. I bit my lip. I’d have to sneak back and let Colt out as soon as I could.

“Happy now?” I asked the SAA as he held his arm out for me to take.

“Happier,” Atlas replied in his deep, rumbling voice. His large hand engulfed mine as he tucked it into the crook of his arm.

We walked together up the corridor, the pulsing beat of dance music getting louder as we neared. My steps faltered as we walked into the bar, and I looked around. The heavy bass pounded through my chest like a second heartbeat as the music flooded my senses. I smiled as I took in the dance floor already packed with people, their arms raised in the air toward the DJ booth where a beautiful woman spun her decks, controlling the crowd with the music.

Lights flashed, bouncing off the walls of the bar, lighting the place up before lunging it back into darkness as the resonating beat seemed to make the walls expand with every thump.

The atmosphere was electric.

Atlas leaned down to my ear. “I’ll leave you with the boys.” He nodded toward the bar where some of the brothers were shooting the shit. “Gonna go check on Stitch. She was feelin’ tired after the meal, so I sent her to lie down. If you see techno boy, tell him I need a word.” He saluted me with one finger and walked away.

Heat hit my back. I turned to see Colt behind me. “How did you get out?” I called over the music.

“You think I don’t have a key to your room,” he replied quietly, leaning down to my ear. “It was a close one.” He took my hand and pulled me toward the throng of dancers. “Come on, baby.”

It wasn’t unusual for me and Colt to dance together at parties. We’d been doing it for years, even when I was a teen, he always danced with me. Years ago, he even taught me how to waltz and tango saying that when I was a rich, successful doctor it was a skill I’d be grateful for.

I didn’t care. I just wanted to be close to him and dancing was a good way to achieve it.

Colt nodded toward a group of girls dancing up a storm. A flash of blonde hair caught my eyes, and I recognized Kennedy losing herself in the music. She looked so beautiful and sexy bumping and grinding her hips, watched over by Kit who stood with his back to a wall with a group of guys.

He couldn’t take his heat-filled eyes off her.

Colt pulled me close, and we began to move together in time with the pounding beat. Our bodies swayed and pulsed in sync with the crowd. Flashing lights illuminated his handsome face and my heart swelled at our closeness.

I loved being this way with him. Just for a moment I could pretend we were a normal couple, openly together. I could forget all the obstacles and just act like a normal girl would with her man.

His hand came to my hips, and he stepped closer until our bodies connected. I slid my hands up his chest and we moved as one in time to the thudding bassline of the song.

He leaned down and whispered into the shell of my ear. “You havin’ fun?”
