My heart clenched painfully, and my steps faltered as voices carried through to the hallway.

“I’ve told ya, Lucy. Get the fuck off me,” Colt snapped.

Another giggle before Lucy said cajolingly, “Oh come on. Nobody will know.”

“I’ll know,” Colt muttered angrily. “I told ya to get off.”

“Oh, come on,” she murmured breathily. “You’re not seeing anyone. Let’s fuck for old time’s sake. Nobody makes me come like you do, Colt.”

I closed my eyes, trying to tamp down the sick feeling threatening to overtake my stomach. A bad taste made my mouth water and a lump formed in my throat.

“No, Lucy!” Colt snapped louder. “Get your fuckin’ hands off me.”

My hand met the wall and I held on for dear life.

Why did he let her in there? Why hadn’t he thrown her out? I had no clue Lucy was even at the party unless she’d turned up while I was treating Hendrix.

My feet moved again, my heels tapping against the tiled floor announcing my arrival to Colt and Lucy fucking Bloom. I got to the open door and studied the sight before me with a sneer.

Colt sat on the edge of his desk, one boot planted on the floor, his hands holding Lucy’s away from him as she tried to touch his face.

“Aww come on, Colt,” she teased. “You used to love me touching you.”

A squeak escaped my throat and two sets of eyes slashed toward me.

Colt pushed Lucy away by her wrists. “I told you to leave.” His jaw clenched angrily. His eyes flashing retribution.

Lucy pouted. “Oh, come on. Don’t act like you didn’t want me here in front of your little girlfriend.” She shot me a triumphant look. “I was fightinghimoff before you walked in.”

I folded my arms across my chest and cocked an eyebrow. “Funny that. I could hear you from the top of the hallway and I distinctly remember you begging and Colt saying no.”

“That’s just the part you heard. Before you turned up, we were discussing how good we used to be together.” She leaned in and brushed a kiss across Colt’s jaw.

“Enough!” Colt roared, pushing her away so hard that she teetered on her high heels. “Told you to get the fuck out.” He pointed to the door. “Don’t ever come back.”

Lucy sulked before turning on her heel and sashaying toward me. “Good luck with him,” she crowed. “You’ll need it seeing as ten minutes ago he was all over me.”

I rolled my eyes. “You’re so fucking thirsty it’s embarrassing. You heard him. Get out.”

She gave a little shrug. “Think what you want, but we know the truth, don’t we, Colt.” She sent him a conspiratorial wink and swept out the door and up the corridor with her parting shot of, “See you around, Colt.”

I closed my eyes, trying to ignore my aching chest and the tears gathering behind my eyes. “What the fuck was she doing here?”

“I can explain,” Colt said softly.

Shaking my head, I glared at him. “I know nothing happened. I heard everything, but why didn’t you throw her out sooner?”

“She showed up outta nowhere and wouldn’t leave me alone,” he insisted. “I never asked her to come.” He stood and grabbed my hand. “I’m sorry.”

I pulled my fingers free and stumbled back a step. “But you didn’t throw her out either, did you? I had to walk in here and see her pawing at you while you just sat there.”

“I was trying to make her leave quietly without causing a scene,” he bit out. “I didn’t want anyone at the party getting wind of our business. And anyway, if you’d have stayed with me like I fuckin’ asked in the first place, it would never have happened.”

My lips twisted into a wry smile. “So, it was my fault?”

Colt walked around his desk and sank into his chair. “If the shoe fits.”

“Fuck you,” I whispered, a tear tracking down my cheek.
