“I’ve said I’m sorry,” he muttered. “I dunno what else I can do.”
“You don’t get it,” I breathed, tone quiet with fury. “You fucked me over for her a year ago. You stopped spending time with me, and you stopped being my friend because she made you. All that time you were fucking her even though you profess to not even liking her, but still you put her before me. How do you think that makes me feel?”
His eyes lifted to meet mine until I could see the regret shining in them. “I can’t turn back time. I wish I could click my fingers and erase the last year, but I can’t.”
“I know,” I whispered, nausea rising through my stomach. “But then I walk in here and see her touching you...” I shook my head sadly. “How would you like it of you walked in on me and Donovan like that?”
“Freya,” he rasped, tone laced with warning. “Don’t fuckin’ say it.”
“Exactly,” I retorted. “And nothing ever happened between me and him. You were with her for nearly a fucking year. Is it any wonder that I’m so fucking jealous I want to scratch her eyes out?”
“There’s no need to be jealous of her—”
I slashed a hand through the air to cut him off. “The same as there’s no need for you to be jealous of Donny.”
“I was an asshole,” he admitted. “I’m sorry.”
“Yeah, you were,” I muttered.
Colt rose from his chair, stepped toward me, and pulled me in his arms. “Nothin’ happened. Wasn’t interested. I’m not interested in anyone except you. If something happened to us tomorrow and we couldn’t be together, I wouldn’t be interested in anyone else. You’re the girl I’ve waited for, Freya. I wouldn’t jeopardize that for the world.” He laced our fingers together. “You wanna go back to the party?”
I shook my head.
His eyes swept down my dress. “You look too good to have an early night. Wanna stay in here with me? We’ll get some beers and snacks and watch the CCTV. Gotta get the video of Hendrix and Breaker’s fight sorted for Prez.” He waggled his eyebrows. “We can make a night of it.”
I laughed. “Does this shit turn you on?”
He grinned wolfishly. “Almost as much as you do. And guess what else?”
My forehead furrowed. “What?”
“I can watch the cameras to see if someone’s coming while you get on your knees under my desk and suck me off.”
I busted out a laugh. “You sure know how to show a girl a good time.”
“Stick with me, baby.” He sent me a sexy wink. “I’ll keep you right.”
Over the next half hour we got snacks, beer, and blankets and holed up in Colt’s office watching the cameras. He showed me how to work the equipment and flick from camera to camera. We kept a watch on the party, and on the mayor’s mansion. We even checked the cameras Colt had set up around town and tested the license plate recognition system.
Then I crawled under the desk and gave him head before he crawled under the desk and returned the favor.
And it was one of the best nights of my life.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Colt
Over the next few weeks, winter set into Hambleton. The snow came down thick and fast, leaving a white blanket over the sidewalks and roads. The bikes were put away and the snow tires went on the trucks that the brothers hauled out of their respective garages, to get around in over the next few months.
Things had been quiet with the Sinners. Too quiet. We’d pulled over a few vans and rescued three more girls, but I couldn’t shake the feeling in my bones that something big was on the horizon. Still, we were in the best position we could hope for with the new recognition system set up. It was doing its job.
“Need a progress report on the houses, Colt,” Prez demanded.
My eyes veered up to meet Dagger’s. He’d kick my ass if he knew I’d zoned out in the middle of Church. He was anal as fuck about that shit.
“Good,” I replied, not missing a beat. “The construction crew managed to get fifteen properties watertight before the bad weather hit and were able to start work inside the houses. Plumbing, wiring, putting internal walls up, and general construction’s goin’ well too. The entire fifteen should be ready for decoration come spring.” My eyes flickered over Cash, Bowie, Breaker, and Atlas. “You need to take your women shopping for bathrooms, kitchens and all the fixtures and fittings you want installed. I’ve ordered your security systems, and your home hubs are in storage, ready to go.”
Prez’s face screwed up. “What the fuck’s a home hub?”
