Laughter filled the room.

“Oh my God,” Layla murmured, cheeks staining red.

Cash started to bust a gut.

Breaker chuckled.

Bowie shrugged. “She’s gotta point. It is a nasty ass word.”

Sunny turned to Bowie. “Five dollars please, daddy.”

He looked up to the heavens. “Great.”

Freya giggled. “At least she said it was big, Atlas. It could’ve been worse.”

More laughter rang out and I almost choked.

Kennedy coughed. “Coke can.”

“Fuck me,” Atlas muttered.

“Five dollars please, Assless,” Sunny yelled.

The SAA went into his inside pocket, took out the thick clip of bills and dropped it on the coffee table next to him. “Just take it,” he snapped. “There’s no point even thinkin’ I’ll get to keep any.” His eyes narrowed on Bowie and Breaker. “Wait until Zeus is older. I’ll get him to get it all back for me in future holidays when your kids are grown up.”

Sophie’s forehead furrowed. “Who’s Zeus?” she asked, tone confused.

“Our boy,” he told her gleefully.

“It sounds like a porn star name,” she argued.

“Told ya,” Cash piped up.

I sat back from my position at the bar and got myself comfortable.

This lot were hilarious. I loved their banter, especially when the ol’ ladies got involved. My heart squeezed painfully in my chest because next year, chances were, me and Freya wouldn’t be here to witness all the love and laughter.

Knowing I’d be with my girl softened the blow though. Who knew, maybe we would be here but as a couple. I glanced down at Freya who was already staring at me.

“It’ll be okay,” she mouthed.

I nodded my agreement,

My stomach twisted. I really hoped my girl was right because I’d miss this, and I knew she would too. Right at that moment, sitting at the bar taking in all the jokes and banter, something hit me.

There was no Christmas like a Speed Demons’ Christmas, I just hoped this one wasn’t our last.

Cheers went up around the table as Iris, Adele, John, and Abe walked into the bar loaded up with trays full of ham, potatoes, vegetables, and gravy.

Sliding my hand onto Freya’s knee under the table, I squeezed gently.

The day was turning out to be strangely emotional and bittersweet for both of us. Maybe it was the time of year that made us catch all the feels. Christmas had always been family time at the club, and I couldn’t stop thinking that our days here were drawing to a close.

As the dishes were passed around the table and we helped ourselves, I was reminded how the new year was only a week away, and the consequences of coming clean and dealing with the fallout were becoming more real every day. Suddenly, the thought of Prez’s reaction made my throat dry and my hand tremor slightly.

Prez would beat my ass, that was a given, but I wouldn’t fight back.

First and foremost, he was my prez and even though I’d betrayed his trust, it didn’t take away the respect I had for him. Also, I knew in his and the club’s eyes, I’d done wrong. Maybe Cash and Breaker were on my side, but it didn’t take away how I’d lied and gone behind Prez’s back.
