And I couldn’t fucking wait.

Chapter Seventeen

Freya

Six hours later, I pulled through the gate of the Speed Demons’ compound.

The parking lot was full of bikes. We were nearing the end of October, and snow could fall at any time, so the guys were making the most of riding before they put their bikes away for winter.

I pulled into a parking space, turned my engine off, and stared at the building that had been my home for most of my life.

I was seventeen when I left for college with all the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of a young girl who knew what she wanted but didn’t quite know how to get it. Growing up was a part of life, but I was a different person now, compared to the young girl I was then.

In the seven years I’d been gone, I’d gotten older, a little wiser, and a whole lot more confident. I’d earned two degrees and had all the relevant paperwork that told the world I could take an internship in a surgery program in any hospital in the country.

Now I was home, and as I gazed over at the familiar warehouse, I realized I’d missed it.

I grabbed my purse from the footwell of the passenger side, threw my door open, and slid out. The place looked quiet. A couple of old-timers talking by the open garage doors gave me chin lifts, which I reciprocated with a low wave.

I made for the main doors of the clubhouse, noting how the nights were drawing in earlier and already held a nip of winter in the air. I reached out to open the door when a loud scream went up, followed by bellows and shouts.

I halted for a split second before squaring my shoulders and gritting my teeth. Then, hauling the door open, my eyes rounded when I saw people running and pure bedlam erupting.

“Bites his butthole, Jolly Batman,” Sunny shrieked, cowering behind a table. “Assless shots me!”

A little growl went up, and Kai leaped through the air, landed on a couch, and did a Mission Impossible roll before aiming a huge Nerf gun and firing at Atlas, who hovered in a doorway, glaring. “It’s okay, Sunshine,” he yelled. “I got him for ya.”

“Go on, Son. Show the asshole what us Stones are made of,” Dad bellowed, wielding a foam blaster as he chased after Gage.

Jolly Batman let out a loud bark before jumping up and baring his teeth at the SAA, who bared his teeth right back at the ugly dog. The huge SAA leaned down and barked, then let out a howl.

“Kai!” Kennedy shouted from the bar. “Quick! JB’s got him on the back foot.”

My nephew lifted his blue and orange Nerf rifle, aimed, and fired off a shot that bounced off Atlas’s head. “Bullseye!” he yelled and jumped down to the floor with a loud whoop.

“Good job, Son,” Kennedy crowed, ducking to avoid the foam bullet that Atlas fired off toward her. “Next time, aim for his danglies.”

Kit popped up next to her, glowering, jumped over the bar, and ran for the SAA. “Leave my Kitten alone,” he roared, leaping onto him, and bringing him down with a crash.

“Atlas!” Sophie called from a corner where she cowered with Layla. “Be careful.”

“S’okay, Stitch,” Atlas hollered, getting to his knees. “I’ll show the little scrotum sac who his daddy is.” He squealed as Breaker leaped from the floor at his back and tried to throttle him from behind.

“Kai!” Dad yelled as he got Bowie in a headlock. “Shoot the asswipe in the head.”

Gage somehow got himself free and ran for the main doors, with Dad sprinting after him.

“Oh my God,” Layla shrieked. “Stop! Someone’s gonna get hurt.”

“Yeah,” Atlas bellowed, flipping Kit over his shoulder. “And it’s gonna be Breaker.”

My brother landed flat on his back with a moan.

“I’ll save ya, Dad!” Kai shouted as he took aim and fired another shot at Atlas’s head.

My eyes widened as the opening bars to Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ blasted through the speakers, and Kady appeared in the doorway from the kitchen.

“I loves this song!” Sunny shrieked, grabbing Kady’s hand and running for the bar.
