“Just try please, Tor.” Supergal warned me to calm the fuck down.

My girl always grounded me. Never lost her patience with me. Was there whenever I needed her. My rock. My world. I had to do this for her. Cool down my impatience for her. Be the superhero she wanted me to be. The one I used to be.

Encouraged by her words, I sent the signal for my leg to move. Muscles twitched and my leg jerked but didn’t shift. A good sign communication was happening despite the destroyed nerves. I repeated the instruction and my body sparked from the electricity surging from the machine through my nerves and muscles. My foot shuffled along the floor.

Pascal didn’t budge from my side, moving with me despite not liking to touch people. My buddy was getting more comfortable with me.

“Fuck me.” I barked out a laugh, buoyed by the action.

I did it again, getting slightly more motion, my legs trembling from not seeing much movement this last week as well as losing some strength. Fireworks burst out of me that the machine acted as a substitute for the damaged nerves, communicating the signals from my brain to my hips, knees, and legs.

“That’s incredible.” Knoxe clapped me on the shoulder, cheering me on.

“Keep going.” Cole bent over, examining the connections. “Get a feel for it. Get used to the movement. It’ll probably be a little more mechanical than you’re used to.”

Mechanical. I didn’t fucking care how I moved so long as I got to walk again!

I willed my leg to take a step and it thrust outward awkwardly. Movement. Fucking movement. Tingles pulsed down my spine and legs where the skeleton stimulated my nervous system with electrical impulses. God, it was the best feeling, even though the zaps stung a little.

“Oh, God, he’s doing it. Keep going Tor!” Supergal cheered, glued to my side with every step.

Thrilled to have her with me on this journey, to be moving, I didn’t stop until I hit the opposite wall, collapsing against it, bracing myself so I didn’t fall. “Fucking hell, Cole. This is incredible, man!”

Not even the reproachful frown of the warden brought me down from the high.

“Tor!” Supergal shouted, giving me her shoulder and arm to lean on. She brushed sweaty hair from my forehead. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Superguy was beaten and knocked down,” I panted. “But not out for the count.”

She howled with a laugh and stroked my face, tears tracking down her perfect, rosy cheeks. God, I loved this woman. My super girl. My baby. My forever.

Supergal sniffed and dabbed at the tears under her eyes. “Cole this is wonderful, thank you.”

“Thanks, Cole.” Heck, I loved this man so much I could kiss him. I spun to cross back to him and give him that big smooch. Hope he liked man kisses. Getting punched in the mouth would ruin the best day.

Cole swaggered over smiling like a genius mad scientist. “It still needs some tinkering. I need to check the crystal voltage and adjust it to your body. Sorry if I set it too high and electrified you.”

I was so happy, I didn’t care. “A little pain for a lot of gain.”

My arm spasmed as I lifted it to thread over Cole’s shoulder. He got the kiss I intended and extricated himself from the man cuddle, rubbing at his blushing cheek. Cole shook my hand as I outstretched it.

“This is wonderful, what you did, son.” Selena gave Cole a proud squeeze on the arm. Her eyes said it all. She wanted his love and acceptance.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t having any of it, clearing his throat and nodding at her, his gaze shooting back to me. ‘Forgiveness was their mountain to climb. I wished them well.

Superguy had one of his own to surmount and I slowly shuffled across the room. My whole body felt stronger and lighter than it had this past week.

“Do I owe you a blow job as thanks?” When I pulled back, I wagged my eyebrows at him suggestively.

Oh, yeah, Tor was back, baby!

Supergal snorted and sniffed, wiping at her eyes.

The warden cough-choked his disapproval. Nope. I wasn’t bringing it back down for anyone.

My team banded around me, and I felt the weight of the support and love.

Serena put a hand on her son’s shoulder, and he let it stay there, showing me they had hope of coming back together.
