“Any movement with patching over to the Demons?”
“Wolf’s still resistant to presenting it to the prez.”
He didn’t want to lose out on his cut of the sales he made to Fletch. With as much as the feds were buying, that came out to a nice chunk of change. “Keep working him.”
A loud yawn filled Crew’s ear. “That it?” Fletch prodded.
“No.”
“Jesus. Can you get to it, then?”
“I was thinking about your house.”
“I’ve heard of some strange fetishes before but that might take the cake. I’m not sure I want you going over there to check on it anymore. Don’t make me take a blacklight to the interior of my home.”
“I make my deposits on the outside, so the rain washes away the evidence.”
Fletch fake gagged.
“Are you interested in renting it out?”
“I thought Sapphire moved in permanently with Rez-avoir Dog.”
“She did,” Crew responded. “It’s not for her.”
“Are you in financial straits and need to sell your place due to all that alimony and child support?”
“No,” Crew answered. “But thanks for that painful reminder, jackass.”
Fletch snorted. “You’re reminded every month when your salary disappears from your bank account.”
“Again, thanks for that. It’s not for me.”
“Then who? I don’t want just anyone living in my home and sleeping in my bed.”
Crew wouldn’t, either. “If no one has told you yet, we got a replacement for Butler.”
“Oh yeah? Where’s he from?”
“The DEA. And he’s a she. Her father is the principal deputy administrator.”
“Don’t know what the hell that is.”
“Someone who could crush my stellar career if she runs to Daddy and complains about me.”
Fletch whistled. “Then you’re fucked because you’re a complete asshole. So, Daddy gave her an in with the DEA,” Fletch concluded. “What about the task force?”
“That’s my guess because if I had a choice, it wouldn’t be her.”
“Why? Is she incompetent?”
No, she’s a headstrong smart ass.“I don’t know, I only met her yesterday.” As an adult, anyway. “Today will be her first full day with the team.”
“So, what’s wrong with giving her a chance?”
“She’s only twenty-eight.”
“Okay? Nova was only thirty-one when she joined us. I know math is hard for you unless it comes to your alimony payments, but that’s only a three year difference. And my woman’s a great federal agent and task force member.”
