“Many times.”

“And it’s nice?”

“Yes. We’ve all been taking turns checking on it. It’s my turn to go over later, so how about after you’re done with today’s light reading, I take you over there?”

“I’m game.” She grabbed her empty coffee mug and stood. When she turned, they were only inches apart.

His heart thudded in his chest when she reached out and brushed her hand over his shirt.

What was she doing?

“You had a bit of powdered sugar on you.”

He glanced down, his pulse now racing at her unexpected touch.

What the actual fuck?

With a smirk, she went to get more coffee.

While he went outside to get some air because suddenly the walls on the third floor had begun to close in on him.

ChapterFour

Cami followedCrew into the paved driveway and parked next to his bike. She sat in her car as he dismounted and pulled off his helmet, exposing his sexy as hell salt-and-pepper hair. He brushed fingers through it to get rid of his helmet head before shrugging out of the light leather jacket he wore and tossing it over the seat.

Then he turned his mirrored sunglasses in her direction.

Shit.

Somebody had gotten distracted.

That somebody was her.

She pulled in a breath to cool off the warmth pooling in a place begging for attention.

She remembered him. From eighteen years ago.

When he and her father sat on their back patio having a beer together. They had been celebrating the completion of a successful investigation.

One they worked together.

It wasn’t long after that they moved, since her father kept getting promoted. She wondered why Crew hadn’t. Or maybe he loved being an agent. Some law enforcement enjoyed remaining in the ranks and getting their hands dirty. They didn’t like being stuck in the office or didn’t want to deal with the bullshit that came along with each link in the chain of command.

She opened her driver’s door and climbed out, turning her attention to the house in front of her.

It wasn’t a mansion but wasn’t a hut, either. It was a sprawling modern ranch-style home with an oversized two-car garage. She wondered who was cutting the grass and maintaining the landscaping while Fletcher was undercover.

“Does that five hundred include utilities?”

Crew pursed his lips for a few seconds, then said, “Sure.”

“Who will be responsible for maintenance? Like the yard and all that?”

Crew planted his hands on his hips and turned to stare at the house. “I guess you. Have you used a mower before?”

Since he wasn’t facing her, she rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I’ve mowed grass before. I’ve also weeded. As well as vacuumed and cleaned toilets since I wasn’t born in a palace with a full-time staff.”

He glanced at her over his shoulder. “Your dad makes some decent money.”
