“We don’t discriminate. The only requirement is that you have a badge. Or that you retired honorably.”
Suddenly he was flanked by Rez and Finn.Just fucking great.
“We could use more members,” Finn said.
“Have you ever ridden on a bike with someone else?” Rez asked.
Cabrera shook her head. “No.”
“Don’t you think that would be the first step?” Crew asked more sharply than he should’ve.
He didn’t miss it when Finn and Rez exchanged looks.
“I don’t know, would it?” she asked.
“Take her for a ride, Crewser,” Finn encouraged him with a laugh and whacked the back of his hand into Crew’s gut. “Or have her be your backpack on the next run.”
For fuck’s sake.
Cabrera’s eyebrows pinched together. “What does that mean?”
“It means riding on the back of Crew’s bike when we have our next organized club ride,” Jamison explained.
“Oh, that sounds like fun. But after watching him almost eat it down the steps, I’m wondering if his balance is good enough to ride.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake!
“Do you think it would be safe for me to ride with him?” she asked next, trying to appear innocent.
It was all an act.
Both Rez and Finn snorted in stereo.
“I can take you for a spin,” Rez volunteered.
“Sapphire won’t mind, brother?” Crew asked him.
“Sapphire? What a unique name!” Cabrera exclaimed.
“She’s unique all right,” Crew muttered.
Rez scratched his cheek with his middle finger. “She’s one of a kind. But no, she wouldn’t mind. It’ll be a quick spin on my bike. Now, if she was spinning on my—”
Crew clapped his hands loudly. “Okay! Time for you to go so we can get this intervention started.”
“So, you’ll take her for a ride, then?” Finn asked Crew, not hiding his amusement.
“Yeah, once I install my training wheels.” He grabbed Cabrera’s elbow and steered her toward Decker where he stood jawing with Cross near the kitchen area.
“Yo, Full Deck, throw me your key to Fletch’s house.”
Decker frowned. “Why?”
“We’re done checking on it.” For now, anyway.
“Why? Are you pulling him from the Dirty Angels?”
“No, she’s going to be staying at his place and keeping an eye on it.”
