“I don’t give a fuck what you do. Just stay the fuck outta my way.”

Hot damn!“You got it.”

And she got the job.

Now she only had to convince Crew to approve the assignment.

She was afraid that would be more difficult than convincing Bulldog.

ChapterTwelve

Crew stabbed the doorbell. For the third time.

Murphy’s deepwoofanswered him every time he jammed his finger against the button.

She had to be home. She didn’t return the sedan this morning. Instead, it was currently parked at Fletch’s. Outside, too.

Not smart.

She should’ve switched out the pool car for her Audi before heading home.

Bringing a task force vehicle home—worse, leaving it parked outside—was one of the reasons T-Bone discovered where Decker—aka Hatchet—lived.

That had been a bonehead move for a seasoned LEO. That mistake almost caused his daughter to be kidnapped. And itdidcause his woman to be taken. Luckily, Sloane had escaped, but not without injuries.

A lesson hard learned.

Now Cabrera had done the same at Fletch’s home. Totally fucking reckless.

He rang the doorbell one more time to give her a chance to answer it before he went ahead and used his key.

Just as he was slipping his hand into his pocket, the door was flung open and a sleepy Camila Cabrera blinked at him. “Jesus.”

“No, it’s Crew.”

“Neither of you should be at my front door this early in the morning.” She ended that with a yawn.

Her dark hair fell loose around her shoulders and looked like it hadn’t been brushed in ages, pillow creases marked her cheek, and she wore a dark blue, oversized, baggy T-shirt that screamed NAVY in large yellow block letters across her chest, and… nothing else that he could see.

He allowed himself a quick glance, but made sure not to linger on her toned, bare legs since he shouldn’t be eyeballing a subordinate like that. Especially one he had constant thoughts about. Thoughts that might get him in trouble if he shared.

Unfortunately, keeping his eyes where they belonged was a struggle.

“Then you should’ve switched out the pool car for your Audi before you came home.”

She scrubbed a hand over her eyes, took a visible breath, then shook her head. “This was closer than Rockvale. I was nodding off as I drove, so I decided to come here, instead. I figured it was better than falling asleep at the wheel.”

While he couldn’t disagree with that assumption… “You had me fucking worried when I drove into the lot this morning and saw your Audi still parked behind The Plant. Especially after where you went last night.”

That was true. His heart had stopped when he saw her car in the lot. He figured if she wasn’t here at the house, he’d be making a trip to Hawg Wild next. With backup.

Murphy released a loud groan behind her as he lowered himself to the tile floor. She glanced over her shoulder. “Same, boy, same.” She faced Crew again. “Sorry, working nights has been kicking my ass.“

“Welcome to being on a task force.” He tipped his head to the side. “Are you going to let me in?”

“I figured you’re only here to give me shit and afterward, as the task force leader, you’d have more important things to go do. Like somewhere other than here. I didn’t know you wanted to come in.”

“I’m still standing here on the porch, aren’t I?”
