“That’s the problem. I do want it. I never expected to want it again but by you being all up in my goddamn face, you’ve forced me to pay attention. I did.”

What the hell was he talking about? “You want me to help you?” Was he finally giving in?

“No.”

What the hell? She shook her head. “You’re not making any sense.”

“Because none of it makes sense to me,” he ground out.

Well, that was as clear as mud. “So, explain.”

“No need to explain, I can just show you.”

His voice had turned gruff and if she thought his eyes were dark when he was pissed, they were even darker now.

The way he was looking at her…

Should she be afraid?

It was possible he wasn’t a threat to himself but to others. Like to her. Had she pushed him too far?

She forced down the lump wedged in her throat.

Why did she leave her purse with her knife locked in her trunk? Her father regularly drilled into her that she should always be prepared by having a weapon within reach to protect herself.

If she died in this fucking closet at a community center in Shadow Valley, he’d be pissed. At her at first for not listening, then he’d go on a damn rampage. Magnum was scary when he was angry. He turned into the Black Hulk.

Hulk! Smash!

She was so damn distracted by her own crazy thoughts, she was caught off guard when Nox clamped his hand around the back of her neck and squeezed hard, holding her in place as he dropped his head and smashed his lips to hers.

Holy shit. What was happening right now?

What the hell was happening?

Maybe she did drive him over the edge. Not to do violence, but…

Damn, he was a good kisser.

She was so freaking confused since this was so unexpected. Did she even want him to kiss her?

She fisted his T-shirt and melted into him.Oh hell yes, she wanted him to kiss her. This was no sloppy-ass kiss, either. He was kissing her like he meant it.

As his lips moved over hers, she opened them and invited him in.

She figured that move would send him sprinting out of the closet and far away from her. But it didn’t. Instead, he accepted the invite with gusto. With his fingertips digging deeper into her neck, the fingers of his other hand splayed over her cheek as he deepened the kiss.

For not having kissed anyone for over two years—and she had no doubt that was true—the man certainly wasn’t rusty. Or timid about it. He was leaning into that kiss with everything he had.

She had no complaints as their lips moved against each other, their tongues tangled, their breaths mingled and the tiny sounds coming from the back of their throats were in harmony.

They ignored the fact his baseball cap had been knocked off his head.

They ignored the fact they were eating each other’s face in a closet in the Shadow Valley Community Center.

But more importantly, she ignored the fact that kissing a cop would drive Magnum on the same type of rampage as if Nox killed her.

To her father, hooking up with a cop was just as heinous as being murdered by one.
