“Keenan!”For fuck’s sake, the whole neighborhood just heard that.
“That’s what Grumps said about Grandma Cait. He said Asia and Caleb came out of her pussy.”
Her head spun toward her father. “You did not.”
Devyn was practically folded in half, laughing his ass off. He wasn’t the only one amused.
“Not what I said,” Magnum told her, failing at keeping a straight face.
“Yes you did, you said?—”
“Keenan!” Liyah scolded. “Stop right now or you’ll be grounded for a week. What did I tell you about repeating everything Grumps says?”
“Damn, kid, what’d I tell you ‘bout bein’ a snitch?”
“That— Wait… Who’s that, Mom?” her youngest whispered loudly, finally spotting Nox where he leaned back against the monster oak tree in her front yard. He had one boot propped on the tree trunk and his baseball cap pulled low to hide his eyes as he waited.
He might act like he wasn’t paying attention, but she was damn sure he did not miss any of the family chaos or what Keenan belted out at a volume level of one hundred.
She wouldn’t blame the man if he sprinted across the yard, hopped on his bike and split the same way he did at the coffee shop.
“Some white boy who shouldn’t be here,” Magnum answered for her. “Figured he’d get tired of waitin’ and be gone by now.”
“You all should be gone by now. I’m supposed to be enjoying some peace and quiet this weekend and you’re already messing that up.”
Magnum grunted again and turned to her boys. “Devil, get in the side car. Keeper, you ride behind me.”
She hated the “road names” Magnum gave her sons. However, they loved them since it made them feel a part of his MC without actually being members. If she could, she would strongly discourage them from ever joining the Knights.
She didn’t have anything against her father’s club, but she’d prefer her sons didn’t live that lifestyle and that was what it was… a whole damn lifestyle. Unlike Nox’s club, the Blue Avengers, which was more of a social club.
She stood off to the side and watched her family get situated on the Harley. Once the sled roared to life, Magnum gave her a chin lift, scowled one more time at Nox and managed to do a U-turn in her driveway without striking the cop’s bike.
She sighed loudly and squeezed her forehead as she watched them disappear down the street. Once she could no longer hear the bike’s exhaust, she knew the coast was clear and headed over to Nox. “You stayed.”
He dropped his boot to the ground and straightened. “Who can resist free entertainment like that?”
“I can with no problem. Especially since it involves my household.”
He shook his head and…Holy shit. Was that an actual chuckle she heard? If so, it was worth the chaos and embarrassment.
If it was anyone else, she’d wonder how he figured out where she lived, but he wore a badge, making it easy for him to find her information. The only question she had was why he looked for that information in the first place and then followed through by showing up.
The container excuse was bullshit.
She didn’t want to spook him, so she needed to proceed carefully. “The boys won’t be back until Sunday night.”
“I guess that’s a nice break for you.”
Why was his voice such a damn turn-on? “Sure is.”
“Your father take them a lot?”
“He does. My sister Asia is the same age as Devyn and they’re two peas in a pod. Asia might officially be Dev’s aunt, but since they grew up together, they’re close like siblings. Despite our problems in the past, our family is now very tight.”
“What about your husband’s parents?”
“Mark’s dad was also a Pittsburgh PD cop. He and my mother-in-law moved out to Arizona to enjoy the retired life a few years ago. I fly the boys out there a few times a year.”
