Panic soars in my chest. He’s going to accept, he’s going to say yes. He’s going to say–
“No.”
Did I imagine the low rumble of his voice?
“I’ve finally found my mate,” he states with crisp clarity, winding his arm around my waist and pulling me close. “It’s Destiny.” There’s a collective gasp, as well as a couple of cheers. “And I wouldn’t give her up in a thousand years, because I plan to love her for eternity.”
My mouth drops open as I peer up and search for his gaze. Nothing but joy and deep, soft devotion shine in his eyes.
I rise to the tip of my toes and plant a kiss on his lips, right in front of the whole Guild.
Turns out Dane did choose me after all.

I’m woken by a veritable earthquake. I open my eyes, only to realize it’s just Dane shaking me.
“You missed your flight.”
He’s propped up on one elbow, by my side, sheets barely covering his glorious naked body.
I groan, checking my watch. Quarter to noon. Indeed, I should’ve boarded half an hour ago.
“How long have you been up?”
“I never went to sleep,” he informs me with a smirk. “You looked so pretty, it felt like a waste of my superior night vision to close my eyes.”
I try to contort my features into a terrifying scowl, but the truth is, I can’t be mad at him – not after the way he made love to me last night.
“It may have been a good idea to wake me up before my plane took off, don’t you think?”
In a flash Dane gathers me in his arms, heart pounding fiercely against mine.
“I wish you wouldn’t leave,” he confesses in a whisper. “I was hoping that you’d live with me from now on.”
Joy bubbles in my chest as a grin stretches across my face, so wide it almost hurts.
“Then I’m not sure whether you’ll be glad or disappointed to know that the reason I needed to be in Arizona was to sign off the sale of my apartment.”
He nudges away, gawking at me in wonderment. “You mean you were planning to stay by my side all along?”
I grin sheepishly, playing nervously with my fingers. “Believe it or not, I didn’t have much of a plan. All I know is that I resigned from my job when I was in the taxi to the airport, and I emailed an agency about my apartment last week.”
It seems I’ve sent Dane into a state of shock as he merely stares at me unblinkingly. Gathering my courage, I lift my gaze until I meet his silver depths.
“Because I love you, Dane,” I want to shout, only the words come out breathless and hoarse. “The day I decided to come all the way over here… I was free falling towards you.”
It seems like an eternity before Dane’s senses jolt back to life. With a swiftness that catches me off guard, he captures my hands within his.
“Caught you,” he teases with a beam I never would’ve imagined physically possible on the man who came knocking at my door so many weeks ago. “And I’m never letting go.”
Dane
One year later
“Have you seen Destiny?” I blurt when I run into Warwick for the third time.
He looks at me with wide-eyed exasperation. “Since two minutes ago?” He asks dryly. “No.”
