Micah
The town hall echoes emptily and I shake my head. Where the hell is everybody?
Even the guard at the door isn’t on duty like usual. I’ve only been here once or twice since I moved into the area but I still know what’s missing.
I notice things. It’s my superpower now. I wish I had noticed what was going on with my fiancé and my best friend. That would have been nice to know. Maybe it wouldn’t have wrecked me so hard when I walked in on the two of them fucking. In my bed. Our bed.
“Hello? Is anybody here?”
A female with long, straggly hair tugging a huge white cat on a sparkly leash pops her head out of the back. “Who are you?”
Her soft, squeaky voice makes me smile for some damn reason. But I wipe that smirk off my face immediately. I’m not amused by women. Not anymore. Frederica cured me of any thoughts of romance.
“Just came for the wedding.”
She rushes towards me and pats my shoulder, sending tingles rushing into my belly and along my nerve endings. “I’m so sorry. We just notified the bride and groom about the stormand we’re going to have to reschedule. I didn’t think anybody would actually make it here. Apparently I’m the only idiot that didn’t realize the storm shifted directions.” She smiles and my whole body melts before I stiffen my spine and remind myself that I’m not gonna be any woman’s plaything again.
That’s why I’m here. I’m looking to build my own business. Not get involved.
Even if her pretty face and sparkling sapphire eyes make my heart skip a beat.
“I’m sure that wasn’t your fault,” I mutter, looking around. “Are you the wedding planner?”
Her head nods and she grins sheepishly. “I am.”
“So nice to meet you,” I manage to grit my teeth and smile. Judging by the way her eyes widen, my smile must look a bit forced.
“I’m so sorry. What’s your name? I’ll make sure that when the new ceremony is scheduled, you get the notification.”
She thinks that I’m a guest. I clear my throat and smile again. “It’s alright. I’m Micah. I was kind of a last-minute addition.” Otherwise known as a wedding crasher. For a good reason but still…
Something slams into the side of the hall and I wince, reaching out to catch the woman in front of me as she flinches and twists so fast that she almost falls over the giant cat winding through her feet.
“Oh!” Her blue eyes snap up to mine and she freezes in my arms as the cat winds around us, the leash wrapping us up like rope. Her hands flutter on my chest and I grind my teeth, trying to control the sudden stand that my dick is taking. He’s knocking hard against my zipper and I can tell by the way her eyes widen that she’s aware of it too. “Ummm. I’m so sorry,” she whispers, her soft, plush lips drawing my eye.
She’s so close and when I breathe deep, trying to control the urge to tug her even tighter against me, I can smell the soft, floral and spice scent of her. Seems just like what I’ve seen of her so far. A little sugar and a little spice. Very feminine. The soft, chic sweater dress that she’s wearing cradles her curves like a lover’s hand and under my hands, the softness tempts me to explore and claim.
It’s so damn tempting.
“You don’t have anything to be sorry about, sweetheart.”
“Aspen,” she breathes huskily and my dick jerks roughly. Her dark indigo eyes widen and I can see her pupils taking over the dark blue of her eyes, black washing over the sapphire blue. She clears her throat and pulls back, grasping the leash and quickly snapping it around us like a lasso. It’s obvious she’s done this before.
My whole body protests and a chill washes over me as she moves away, giggling lightly. She picks up the hefty feline and cuddles it. I can hear the rough purr from here. A sharp jab of jealousy slams into me as she stares at me, her chin cradled on the cat’s fluffy white head. I don’t like her attention on anything but me and that irritates the hell out of me.
“Princessa! You bad girl! What did you think you were doing?” The cat’s dark blue eyes are eerily like her owner as she stares haughtily at me.
And the way she says “bad girl” reverberates down my spine and lands right in my dick again. Husky, sweet and sexy. I groan silently. What the hell is wrong with me today? Moon madness?I’d believe that more if it was the middle of the night. Maybe barometric pressure is driving me crazy. All I can think about is exactly how bad she can be.
And that shit needs to stop.
I stiffen my spine again and lean down to swipe some long, white hairs off my dress pants.
Her brow scrunches and her little nose wrinkles. A tiny constellation of freckles dances across her pale skin and a strong urge to kiss each one of them shudders through me. “I’m so sorry. Princessa sheds like crazy. Himalayans always do. I’ve got a roller brush in my handbag for emergencies. I’ll get it.”
“No, that’s alright. It’s no big deal.”
“Obviously it is. Follow me.” She lightly drops the fidgety cat to the floor and it stalks off, fluffy tail in the air, like she’s offended that I dared to swipe at her hair. Like I should be delighted that she deigned to gift me her attention and approval.
