Part of me wanted to laugh, to reassure him I had only seen him a night ago. But the bigger part of me knew exactly how he felt, because my body rang in tune with his own. I wrapped my arms tight around his neck, breathing in his woodsy smell. I greedily pressed my lips against his skin, eliciting a growl deep in his throat. “Don’t tease me, Ava. I’m already at my breaking point, and I’ll take you here if you don’t stop.” Jasper raked his warm hand down my back, fingertips dragging on my skin. His lips captured my own, hungrily pressed against mine.

I felt drunk in his presence and intoxicated with his obvious desire for me. I needed more, wanting to feel whole again. Standing on my tiptoes I put my lips to his ear. “So, stop talking and start doing.”

He groaned, closing his eyes. “Fuck, baby. We’re not going to make it to the bike, are we?”

“Not a chance.” This time I pulled him behind me, through the brush beside the path until we were in the forest. The moon was so full I could see Jasper perfectly, his face glowing with the blue light. I stripped off my shirt, standing in front of him in my thin shorts, picturing his pupils dilating. But he still stood there, eyes full of longing. What was his problem? Definitely wasn’t like we hadn’t ever done this outside before. I took his warm hands, placing them over my breasts.

He sucked in a breath through his teeth. “There was somewhere I wanted to take you, first,” he ground out.

Somewherewas going to have to wait. I shook my head. “After. You’re the one who proposed doing this now.”

Jasper’s dark chuckle sent shockwaves to my core. “Okay, fine. I’ll stop complaining.” Eyes flashing dangerously, he stepped toward me until my back was against a tree, the coarse bark scraping into my skin. “I’d ask you if you were okay, but you won’t be noticing anything but me in a minute.” He squeezed my breast, any pretence of gentleness now gone. Jasper dipped his head, replacing his hand with his mouth.

Gasping, I tipped my head back to rest against the tree. He was right. I didn’t notice the scratchy bark. And I wanted more. I grabbed at his shirt, pulling the fabric over his head. Jasper helped me, desperately trying to get closer to me too. He tore my shorts down my legs, and I undid his belt buckle, pushing his jeans over his hips. I wrapped my arms around his neck as Jasper picked me up around my thighs, tightening my legs around his body. His hard cock pressed firmly against my wet pussy, but he made no move to enter me. I tried arching my hips into his body, but he wouldn’t come any closer. His mouth sucked at the delicate skin under my ear. With my back against the tree again, and Jasper’s mouth on my body I rode the fine line between pleasure and pain.

It wasn’t enough. I needed all of him.

“Mark me,” I begged.

Jasper was momentarily shaken from his reverie. “What? Now?” His voice was hoarse, and his gaze was unsure.

I nodded. “Now. I don’t want anything else to be between us.”

His eyes grew resolute, words tender. “Anything for you. Forever.”

Jasper brought his mouth to my neck again, teeth pushing against the firm skin. I closed my eyes, my heart beating erratically in my chest. He was worth the pain.

The exact moment his sharp teeth broke the skin, his cock plunged deep inside of me. Pain tore through my neck as my body adjusted to the joy of having Jasper inside of me again. Colours flashed behind my eyelids. “Oh, Jasper!”

As quick as the pain was there, it was gone, Jasper delicately kissing the spot he had opened. “You did so good. You did perfect. You’re perfect.” Feeling me watching him, he glanced at me, our eyes meeting with a new intensity. “Perfect,” he whispered.

My blood tingled with a rush of something new. It was like I could feel the emotion flooding Jasper’s veins, in addition to my own. Jasper reared back and thrust into me. I clutched his strong biceps, kissing his chest as he moved within me. My body swelled with pleasure, but I couldn’t give in. Not yet. I met his gaze, a question in my glance.

He moved deeper within me, turning his head to the side so I had access to his neck. “Do it. There was never any question I belonged to you.” Jasper’s movements didn’t slow as I positioned my mouth on his smooth skin, making it hard for me to concentrate. I heard a smile in his voice. “Bite hard, baby.”

I did. My teeth pierced his skin and immediately the taste of rust overwhelmed my senses. Jasper’s growl echoed off the trees surrounding us, and he threw his arms around me, bringing me to the ground as gently as he could. I knew the focus took all of his control.

He rested on his forearms on top of me, bright teeth flashing in the dark. “Keep your eyes open. I want you to see me fall in love with you all over again.” I locked my gaze onto his, feeling him drive into me again and again. I didn’t close my eyes when I felt myself peak, or when I orgasmed around him. I kept them open the whole time, watching the unharnessed love reflected in Jasper’s stare as he fell apart inside of me.

He rested his head in the crook of my neck after, our heartbeats returning to normal. Gently I touched the spot where Jasper had marked me.

“Does the bite hurt?” Jasper’s soft voice surprised me. I had thought he had fallen asleep, because his eyes were closed next to me.

“Not really.” I lightly trailed my finger over the mark on his own body. My human teeth had barely damaged his perfect skin, but the bite was there. “I guess I expected I would feel different.”

He opened one eye, propping himself on an elbow and squinting at me. “You thought I’d mark you and you’d instantly start hearing my thoughts?”

“Well… yeah,” I admitted. I was clueless to how this whole thing worked. I thought I felt different. More connected. But I wanted some physical reminder of our permanency.

He leaned up on one forearm, and his muscles tensed under his tattooed skin. “Doesn’t work like that. It’ll take some time. Your body has to adjust to the feeling, like anything else. And honestly, I’m not sure if we will ever be able to share thoughts.” He ran his finger across my mark, sending shivers through my body. Jasper smiled. “Looks pretty badass though, baby.” He gently rolled off me, pulling his clothes back on. “As much as I would like to show you exactly how hot I find it, I really did want to take you somewhere.”

Following his lead, I got up and put my shorts and shirt back on. “Does this trip involve the general public or am I dressed appropriately?”

Jasper pulled me to him, kissing my forehead. “It’ll just be the two of us. Do you want to let Lucy know you won’t be coming home?”

Shit. Lucy. I grabbed my phone from Jasper’s pocket and filled her in on Jasper’s surprise visit. A message came back almost immediately, telling me she already knew. Of course she did. Wolves. I shoved my phone back in Jasper’s pocket. “All good. Let’s go.”

He led the way to the lot where his bike was parked, passing me my helmet. He kicked the bike into action, the motor roaring to life underneath us. I was regretting my decision to not change into pants, until Jasper squeezed my thigh, fingers digging into my leg. Maybe my wardrobe wasn’t so bad after all. Was it just me, or did my spine tingle even more with his touch? To my surprise, he didn’t turn toward Merrillan when he left the lands. Instead, he turned the opposite way, toward Chicago.
