“Fuck,” he murmurs quietly. “How did I get so lucky?”

I gaze at him, my body humming with joy. Even after I walked away from him and let him down, he still wants everything we talked about. We still have a chance to be happy. My heart is so full it’s overflowing.

“I’m the lucky one, Kyle.”

He lets out a rough exhale, taking my mouth in a slow, passionate kiss. Then I’m tugging him on top of me, his woodsy, earthy smell making me dizzy as his weight pins me to the bed.

“I missed you so much,” I say between wet, urgent kisses. My hands are already on his shirt, pulling it over his head so I can trail my mouth across the ink on his shoulder.

“I missed you too, baby.” His lips are on my neck, one hand reaching down to hook my leg around him. I feel his hardness dig into my belly and heat rushes through my bloodstream.

“Clothes.” I can barely get the words out as I kiss him deeper, tugging at his belt buckle. “Off.”

He laughs and lifts himself off me to strip, and I take the chance to wriggle out of my jeans and sweater, kicking my underwear aside. Then it’s just me and him, skin to skin, mouths and hands everywhere.

“I thought about this every single day,” Kyle rasps as my hands close around his cock. “Being with you, touching you. How soft and warm your skin is.” He dips his head to take my nipple into his mouth, fingers sliding between my legs to where I need him so badly. “Fuck, sweetheart. You’re already wet for me.”

“You’re not the only one who thought about this every day.” I arch into his touch, the swirl of his finger sending a jolt of pleasure down to my toes. But I don’t want to wait anymore—I want him as close as he can be. “I need you,” I whisper, guiding his rigid length to my entrance.

Without missing a beat, he thrusts inside me, where he belongs. His mouth finds mine and we hold each other close, rocking together, making up for all the time we’ve spent apart.

“I love you so much, Violet.” He lifts himself up enough to gaze at me, each roll of his hips bringing me closer to the edge.

“I love you too,” I reply, loving the way his eyes darken at my words. “I can’t wait to live with you. To work with you. To be with you every day.”

“Fuck. Yes. Baby.” He underscores each word with a thrust of his hips that makes me moan loudly. “I can’t fucking wait.” He captures my moans with his mouth, driving himself deeper until my hips are bucking underneath him, until we’re lost in sensation, in each other.

After, when my head is resting on his chest, listening to the gentle thrum of his heart, I realize I’ve never been happier than in this moment. This time, I’m not worried about my career, about what I’ll do next with my life. This time, there’s no hiding things from Dad. There are no secrets, no guilt, no fear.

There’s only me and Kyle, and the house we made beautiful together.

Kyle

I’m grinning like mad when Rich opens the door. Violet is beside me, her soft hand in mine, and my friend welcomes us with a smile.

Well, he looks at our joined hands, coughs, then fixes on a smile as he lets us in. I’m sure this will take some getting used to for him, but I don’t mind. I won’t hide my love for his daughter any longer.

“Hi, Dad.” Violet throws her arms around Rich. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too, Sweetpea.” He releases her, watching with a fond smile as she goes to find Diana. His gaze swings to me, and he extends a hand stiffly, saying nothing but “Kyle.” I hesitate at the formal greeting, but he laughs, pulling me into a hug. “I’m kidding. But”—and here his tone grows serious as he lowers his voice in my ear—“if you ever hurt her, I will kill you.”

I pull away with a grim laugh. “I believe you, but don’t worry, Rich. All I want is for Violet to be happy.”

He studies me for a moment, then nods. “I believeyou.” And with that, he turns for the kitchen. “Beer?”

“Sure, thanks.” I follow him to find Diana chatting excitedly to Violet. I haven’t had a chance to speak to Di since everything happened, and I’m not entirely sure how she feels about us.

“Kyle, honey. It’s so good to see you.” She throws her arms around me, planting a kiss on my cheek.

When we pull apart, I gaze at her uncertainly. Maybe she doesn’t know? Would Rich really not have told her?

She pats me on the arm. “Don’t look so worried. I think you two make a good couple.” Her mouth curves into a knowing smile. “Even before Rich told me, I had a feeling there was something going on.”

When I glance at Violet in surprise, she laughs, leaning her head against my arm. “Thanks, Mom. We’re very happy.”

Rich hands me a beer and I take a long pull, relieved there doesn’t seem to be any tension between us. Yes, it’s an unusual situation, but only until we all get used to it.
