We all dance through a few more songs and I can tell Skyler is getting tired. So, I lead her to the bar and wave Tony over.
“What can I get ya?” he asks when he steps in front of us.
Skyler speaks up before I can. “Coconut rum and pineapple juice for both of us but add a splash of vodka to Brady’s, please.”
He looks at me and raises a brow. I nod and he turns to make our drinks. Timothy and Julie step up to the bar next to us. Julie bumps Skyler’s shoulder with hers and smiles. Skyler bumps her back and giggles.
“Did I see Timothy teaching you to play darts?” Skyler asks with a mischievous tone in her voice.
Timothy barks out a laugh. “I don’t know that a professional could teach her a damn thing on a dart board. Juliet has quite the arm and the aim,” he says with a note of pride in his voice.
Tony sets mine and Skyler’s drinks in front of us and turns his attention to Timothy for his order.
“Two Johnny Walker Blues. One neat and one on the rocks,” Timothy tells him.
When Tony pours the drinks, Timothy pushes the one on ice in front of Julie.
“Thank you,” she says, taking a small sip and moaning at the flavor of the scotch.
Skyler screws her face up. “I don’t know how you drink straight whiskey. I like my fruity drinks,” she says, raising her own glass and taking a sip.
Julie shrugs. “I like fruity drinks too but there’s something addictive about consuming something that’s aged to perfection,” she says, and no one misses the double meaning in her words.
My eyes shoot up to Timothy and he smirks, sipping his whiskey. Before I can comment my phone buzzes in my back pocket. I pull it out to see a text from Devon and turn around to see that the rest of our group seems to be missing from the bar. I open the text.
Devon: We’re heading out. Got a little hot on the dance floor. Can you pay the tab and I’ll send you my half tomorrow?
Devon: Oh. And tell my dad I’m sorry I left without saying bye. I’ll call him tomorrow.
Skyler leans over to read the text on my phone and laughs. I put my phone back in my pocket and wave Tony over as I pull my wallet out to pay the tab.
“I need to settle up for the group,” I tell him when he steps in front of me.
He shakes his head. “It’s already been paid with gratuity.” He smiles and points a thumb at Timothy.
“You didn’t need to do that,” I tell Timothy.
“Nonsense. I’m a polite party crasher.” He smirks.
“Well, thank you,” I tell him. “And Devon said he’s sorry he left without saying goodbye. He’ll call you tomorrow.”
Timothy nods. “I’m surprised he remembered I was here.” He chuckles.
“Skyler and I are getting ready to head out,” I say, pulling my phone back out to order an Uber.
Skyler puts her hand on mine to stop me as she looks over at Julie. “Do you want to share an Uber with us since your house is just past our apartment?”
Julie looks up at Timothy and then turns back to Skyler, biting her bottom lip before answering. “Um… I can order one later. I’m not ready to leave yet.”
“I’ll get Juliet home safely. You don’t have to worry about your friend,” Timothy says, smiling at Skyler.
Skyler turns back to me and smiles. “I guess it’s just you and me, Hot Stuff. Let’s go home.”
I order our ride and we say goodnight to Julie and Timothy before walking outside to wait for our driver.
