Chapter Six
Janie stirred an hour later, her sleepy green eyes staring up at him. Cole grinned. “How are you feeling?”
“Good. When did you ... um ... take me off the cross?”
“An hour ago. What’s the last thing you remember?” He rubbed her back in a soothing motion over the blanket.
“You telling me to let go, and I was thinking how the heck to do that and then ... ” Her eyes grew wide. “I was floating on a sea of pleasure.”
“Subspace.” When he’d told her to let go, he’d suspected it might happen. “Do you know what that is?”
“Kind of. I’ve read about it.” Janie’s stomach let out a growl. “Oh, my.” Her cheeks turned pink.
“You need to eat.” Cole stood up with Janie in his arms.
“Cole, put me down.”
“No.” He carried her into the kitchen and set her in a chair. “How about an omelet?”
“Sounds good ... holy crap, it’s almost midnight.”
Cole glanced at the microwave clock. “Yes, it is. Our first play session went on for a lot longer than I expected.”
“Is it always like that?”
He set the eggs and cheese on the counter. “No.” Cole grabbed a mixing bowl and began breaking the eggs. “It’s only that good between two people who trust each other.” He’d been tempted to lie, but that wasn’t him. Not with Janie. She deserved the truth.
“I do trust you,” she whispered, but when he glanced over at her, she was staring at the floor.
“Then stop holding back.” He whipped up the eggs and poured them in the pan. “In your journal, in our play. Let go of your control completely.”
He added the cheese and folded the omelet in silence, letting the cheese melt before sliding it onto a plate. When he sat down next to Janie, he noticed her fingers were clenched tightly around the blanket.
“Should I turn the heater on?” The house didn’t feel cold to him, but he wanted her to be comfortable.
“Umm, no. But ... ” Her green eyes were filled with wonder. “You’re still naked. Aren’t you cold?”
Cole let out a laugh. “I hadn’t even noticed.” He’d forgotten everything but Janie. He cut a piece of the omelet and held it up to her lips. Without a word she opened her mouth and allowed him to feed her.
The Dom inside him cheered, the man swelled with pride. He ate one bite to her every two, and within minutes the omelet was gone. “Do I need to make another one?” he asked.
“No, thank you.” Her voice was quiet, and Cole figured she was coming down from her subspace high. He got up and dropped the plate in the sink before crossing back to her and picking her up.
“I can walk,” she protested.
“I like having you in my arms.” He took her up the stairs and paused. His room or hers? There was no question. He took her into his room.
“Cole?” she said his name softly.
“I’m not leaving you alone tonight.” He reached down and pulled back the covers. “In you go.” He set her on the mattress.
“I’m fine, and I should be in my own bed.”
“You will be crashing from the subspace high shortly and I don’t want you to be alone when that happens.” He climbed in beside her and flipped off the light before reaching for her and cradling her against his chest. “Just go to sleep, Janie.”
He waited and Janie puffed out a breath. Her body was warm against his. When he pulled her to him, he deliberately let the blanket he’d used in the playroom fall away. Instead, he pulled the sheet up and over them.
His heart pounded in his chest, and he hoped she didn’t realize it. He probably wouldn’t get much sleep tonight, but he also wasn’t willing to let her go. When was the last time he’d had a woman in his bed?
