“So needy.” His palms slid from her breasts over her side to her butt. “I want to turn this ass rosy tonight.”

“Yes, please, Sir.” She needed the pleasure he could give her to let go. Get rid of the toxic events of the day.

“I’m in the mood to push you a bit tonight. What are your safewords?”

“Green, yellow, and red, Sir.”

“I’ll start with the rabbit flogger and build from there.”

“Very good, Sir.”

Even though they hadn’t played during the past two weeks, the rabbit flogger only warmed her up a little bit. She didn’t like pain but found the flogging allowed her to let her feelings go and let her worries float away.

Cole paused and Janie waited. “This time I’m going to use an elk flogger. It’s going to sting a little bit more.” He ran the tails over her ass. “Move your hair, please. I want to flog your back tonight as well.”

Janie reached up and pulled her ponytail over her shoulder. As she did so, she glanced at Cole. His expression was one of concentration. He grinned at her when he saw her staring at him.

“Ready?”

“Green, Sir.”

Cole raised his arm. Janie jumped at the sting, but within seconds heat flared. He was so careful, never hitting the same spot twice, moving around her butt and shoulders. Every so often, he’d stop and stroke her skin.

After ten minutes, tears gathered in Janie’s eyes. Not from pain, but from the need to release her emotions. The day spent with Liz as she tried to recover from her husband’s latest beating, then the husband sitting in the parking lot most of the day, had built up unbelievable tension inside her. Thankfully, between her boss and herself, they’d convinced Liz to go to a shelter for the night. At least she’d be safe there; they’d made sure of it.

A sharp sting caused Janie to cry out and the tears to flow. Yes, release, blessed release. Cole stopped cupping her ass as her shoulders shook, and she began to sob.

“Baby?” His voice was soft. “Did I hurt you?”

Janie shook her head, but she couldn’t speak because of her tears. Tears for Liz, tears for all the women who were hurt by men, and tears to cleanse the emotions riding her.

“More,” she whispered.

“No.” Before she could try to get another word out, Cole lifted her off the bondage horse and carried her over to the sofa. He drew the soft blanket around her as he sat with her on his lap. The tears continued to flow. “Janie, what is it?”

She could only shake her head.

“It’s okay. Let it all out.” He held her so tenderly her sobs became even bigger.

How fair was it she got this loving, caring man and other women had to put up with wife-beating assholes? Resting her head against his shoulder, she let the tears continue to fall as Cole’s warmth and tenderness made her heart clench.

After a while her tears dried, and she let out a hiccup as mortification hit her. She’d cried her heart out all over Cole. “I can’t believe I did that.”

“What? Cry all over me?” There was humor in his voice. “Want to talk about it?”

She did, but she couldn’t tell Cole. He had no clue she worked at the clinic and wouldn’t approve. “Just a really stressful day at work. I needed a way to release it.”

“That you did.” He rubbed her back. “Was the elk flogger too much?”

“No.” She tilted her head back to look at him. “It was a bit stingy, but it allowed me to let go of my emotions. To allow the feel of the sting to flow through my body and cleanse it.”

“How far you’ve come since we started.” His lips brushed her forehead.

“It’s from having a good teacher.”

“Maybe.” Cole shifted and dropped another kiss on her forehead.

Janie slid her hand out from beneath the blanket and placed her palm on his cheek. “What is it, Cole?”
