Allyson glanced at the clock, surprised to see it was almost four-thirty. She checked her schedule for Monday. She was meeting Zeke at one of his construction sites to go over a complaint the office received.
She frowned. Who was complaining about one of Zeke’s jobs? She pulled up the complaint and all it said was,not following environmental regulations. That didn’t make sense. She printed out the email and created a file, along with her checklist for complaints like this.
Monday was going to be busy. Not that she minded; she enjoyed her job. After locking her files up, she shut down her computer, picked up the bag that held her laptop, and went down the hall to her boss’s office.
“Wes, I wanted to let you know before I leave I’ve received three more jobs for Riggs Construction.”
“No worries. Have a great weekend.”
“You too.” Allyson gave him a wave and left the building. She sighed when she climbed into her truck. What was she going to do with herself tonight?
She’d swing by the grocery store first, pick up stuff for the weekend, and then spend a quiet night at home. She wondered what Zeke was up to tonight, then pushed the thought away.
Zeke wasn’t on the agenda, even though her brain had other ideas. Nevertheless, he was never far from her thoughts that night, and that included her dreams.
Chapter 3
Zeke stepped out of his truck at Wicked Sanctuary at seven Friday night. Now that it was getting closer to summer, the days were staying light later. He took a deep breath, enjoying the smell of fresh pine.
Once he had his meeting with Max next week, he’d file for the permit to expand Wicked Sanctuary. He would need to discuss with Max how they wanted to handle the inspections. He trusted Allyson, but he wasn’t sure about her co-worker, Rudy.
He’d caused so many issues with the bookstore, and he’d heard Rudy’s snide remarks about the adult store. Not that Zeke was worried about people finding out about the expansion.
After Damon and Tessa outted the club at a press conference—with permission from Max—to stop Tessa’s father from blackmailing her, Zeke was pretty sure there wasn’t anyone in Pleasant Valley who didn’t know about the club.
A grin formed. He enjoyed Wicked Sanctuary. It gave him a place to play and relax. Not that he’d played in a while. Some of the club subs still sought him out, but he found he wanted something more permanent.
Allyson’s face popped into his mind. Yes, he wanted something with her. But he had to take baby steps. She was jumpier than a bunny. He pulled open the wooden door with theWSlogo engraved on it to see Ralph behind the desk and…“Dani?” His breath caught in his throat.
When had Dani become a member? Why hadn’t he noticed her in the club before? She was Allyson’s best friend. Did Allyson know? Was Allyson interested in kink? Questions swirled around in his brain.
“Evening, Sir,” Dani said.
“Evening, Zeke,” Ralph said, glancing between the two.
“Ralph.” Zeke kept his gaze on Dani while he signed in. “Would you mind if I steal Dani for a moment?”
“Of course not. But I do need her back. I’m showing her how the computer system works. She’s my new assistant.”
Zeke nodded and gestured to Dani to precede him down the hallway. “Classroom,” Zeke said quietly as she walked in front of him.
“Yes, Sir.” Her response was quiet and respectful.
Not that he expected anything less, but seeing Dani had thrown him for a loop. Once they were inside the classroom, Zeke looked at how she was dressed. She was wearing boy shorts, a sports bra, and heels. “When did you become a member, Dani?”
It was an obvious question. But he couldn’t remember seeing her in the club during his on-duty times. Then again, there were a lot of people in the club when it was open.
“When I returned home, Sir.”
“Drop the sir.” Zeke shook his head, still grappling with the fact that Allyson’s best friend was part of the club. A lot of people from town were members. “Why is this the first time I’m seeing you here?”
“I usually come in late on Friday or Saturday nights, mainly Fridays. Master Max was looking for someone to help Ralph, and I volunteered.” She frowned. “Is there something wrong?”
Zeke stared at her. “Sorry, I don’t know why I’m shocked at seeing you here.”
“I’m sure you’ve seen other friends here,” she said.
“Yes, but…” What? Just because she was Allyson’s friend, and he lusted after Allyson. “You’re right. Sorry, I reacted without thinking.”
