“And you better keep your promise about the tailor,” I remind him and he laughs, leading me to the door.

“Of course… how could I forget?” He leans down, kissing my cheek.

I feel as if so much of myself has changed in the small amount of time I’ve known Sir. His words and praise have grown to mean so much to me. I was panicking because of my dad, but hearing Sir tell me I did nothing wrong is enough to quell any fear…

It’s not like he did anything or changed my mind on the situation, so why do I feel so calm and relaxed? I want to ask, but I keep my mouth shut. No, I need to get out of here and get some time to myself. I need to think and clear my mind of the daze I’ve been in since meeting him. Once I do that, I’ll return to normal.Cracks have begun to form on me and if I stay near him, more cracks will form on my person and my sanity will eventually break and I can’t handle that…

Chapter 8

Glorious Union

GLORY

“Wow!”

“Do you like it?” Sir flashes me a look from the corner of his eye while I marvel over the sheer gorgeous architecture of Bunny and Wolf’s home.

“I do,” I breathe out in awe. “It’s breathtaking and has so much light!” I exclaim, more used to the dark and gaudy black and red color palate that’s trending back in New York. At first, I couldn’t truly appreciate the beauty of it all, but now that I’m a little more clear headed…words do it no justice.

“Then shall I build you one like this?” he asks. His ridiculous yet somehow still matter-of-fact question makes my heart skip a beat even though I know he’s joking

“Oh yeah? You’ll build me an estate just like this?” I tease.

“Aye, where would you like it built? You live in New York right now, correct? Would you like it there?” I sneer, unconsciously gagging at the thought.

“I think not,” I vigorously shake my head. “In fact, I want to live as far from New York as possible,” I answer him.I don’t want to be anywhere my dad can burst in on me…

“Then California?” I pause, pursing my lips.California…

“Yes,” I beam happily at the thought.

“Okay, it shall be done.”

“What shall be done?” I place a hand on my hip, watching him, and he wraps a hand around my waist.

“Whatever you want, or did you forget I said you can have anything?” he chuckles and nuzzles my neck.

“I didn’t,” I quietly laugh.

“Good. Now come, let’s say goodbye to the hosts.” He pulls me down the spiral staircase through the lovely, well-lit home that feels more like a stunning art museum mixed with homey furnishings than a space where a family lives, all the way to a Martha Stewart-type kitchen.

“Oh! Hunny, look!” Wolf perks up in Bunny’s lap. “Are you feeling better?” She jumps up and walks over to me.

“Well…” I trail off, and she tilts her head to the side, knowingly giving me a gentle smile.

“Take your time and think about it, okay? But understand we enjoyed our time with you.” She pulls me over to the table, setting me down while simultaneously grabbing me a plate, topping it with food, and setting it in front of me.

“I… uhm… thank you.”

“No problem. It’s the least I can do as an apology to you. I had no idea you were not prepared for such a scenario, but I blame Axil for that,” she sneers, narrowing her eyes at him.

“Glory might not have been prepared, but she was ready.” Sir sits in a chair next to me, takes the fork from my hands, and begins cutting up my food, then holds it out for me to eat.Again with this man!

I don’t understand why he’s going this far for me when we both know this will never last, but I don’t fight it. I find that fighting with him, unlike with other men, gets me nowhere, so instead, I open my mouth and take the food offered.

“Yes, that may be so, but it’s no wonder she acted in such a manner this morning. I would have been shocked too had Iparticipated in such an act with two random people.” She rolls her eyes at Axil.

“It’ll never be random people, and I trust my Dear Glory to know that no matter what we do or who we do it with, I’m always thinking about her safety and health. The type of things we are into are dangerous otherwise,” he grumbles and Bunny nods.
