“I’m actually feeling a little…achy suddenly,” I say, watching Jonah’s face.

He slides a finger into me. I press my lips together to keep from moaning.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Can I send something over to your hotel?” Christian asks.

Jonah frowns. Clearly with Jonah here I don’t need help from anyone else. For anything. He slides his finger in and out slowly.

“No…I’m good,” I manage. I grip Jonah’s shoulder with one hand. “I’ll be okay.” I pause. Then I have to say, “Jonah’s here for anything I need.”

Jonah’s eyes are focused on mine as he strokes in and out again.

I swallow the moan that tries to rise up. I might need more practice in staying quiet when Jonah teases me, but I’m very happy to put the time in. It’s deliciously torturous.

“Of course,” Christian says. “Well, please think about the dinner. Or the gala. Or both. Or we could also just get together. I can come to Cara, or I’d love to have you come visit again. Here in D.C. or New York.”

Jonah’s finger continues to move, and I barely register Christian’s voice. It vaguely sinks in that if Ididwant to date him, I would love that he seems so eager to see me again.

But it’s a moot point now.

“I’ll—”

Jonah reaches up and mutes the phone. “Cancel breakfast,” he growls.

“Okay.”

“Cancel everything with him.”

I nod. “Yes.”

His thumb brushes over my clit and he curls his finger against the front wall of my pussy. “Good girl.”

I take the chance to take a deep breath, then I unmute the phone. “Christian, there’s something I need to tell you.”

“Okay,” he says, sounding hesitant.

I keep my eyes on Jonah’s as I say, “What I told you about Jonah earlier wasn’t completely true.”

“I…see.”

“Actually…it was. He is my best friend. My confidant. And sometimes my security. But he’s…also the man I’m in love with.” I let that sink in.

For both of them.

Jonah’s hand stops moving. His eyes get even hotter and his breathing gets more ragged.

Christian clears his throat. “Oh.”

“I’m sorry. No one knows. It’s a little complicated. But I can’t go to the gala. Or any official dinners with you, just the two of us. And I can’t spend a weekend in D.C. or New York with you. I can’t have breakfast tomorrow either.” I pause. “Though I would like to be friends and still talk about ways Cara can partner with you on projects and new ideas. I think you’re going to be an amazing leader and we’d love to be your friend and ally.”

Jonah doesn’t remove his hands from my body, but he doesn’t move. He just waits with me. He knows, however else he feels about Christian, that he will be a great ally for Cara.

Finally, Christian says, “Of course. Absolutely. I’m…disappointed. But I absolutely value our friendship as well.”

I’m relieved. And I hope he really does feel that way after he thinks about it more. “Wonderful. Thanks for understanding.”

“Well, I can’t expect you to give up love for politics,” he says with a soft laugh.

Hmm. He’d be one of the few. “Thanks, Christian.”
