“I think so.”
When I turn to look at him, he’s not admiring the view. He’s looking right at me. My heart melts just a little bit. Atticus is a good man.
I smile at him. “That was sweet.”
“So are you,” he adds.
I get up from my chair and make my way over to him. Stopping in front of him, I run my hand along his jaw, pausing to cup his cheek. He leans into my touch before turning his face to kiss my palm. My heart stutters at the tenderness this beast of man shows me. And I can’t help but notice that while this view may be beautiful, Atticus is the star of the show.
He grabs my hand and pulls me down in his lap, my back to his chest.
His hand slides up and down my side, and full-body chills envelop me from his touch. I reach behind me and wrap my arm around his neck, and I can’t help the little bit of movement in my hips at his erection growing between us.
“Damn, sweetheart. You’re sexy as hell.”
Somehow, he spins me around and I straddle him, his mouth crashes against mine in a rough but sublime kiss.
His desire pours into me, and I chase after it like a high.
He pushes his warm hand into my shirt and palms my breast through my bra, then squeezes before he pulls the cup down to play with my nipple. I moan in pleasure, pushing out my chest, making it easier to do as he pleases.
“Shit. Hop up, sweetheart.”
“What? Why?”
It doesn’t take me long to realize the sky has suddenly turned dark but he answers, anyway.
“Pop-up thunderstorm!” he shouts as he lifts me and rises from the chair simultaneously before placing me back on my feet. I don’t have time to be impressed because a deluge is heading our way.
We run, and I squeal, thunder rumbling in the distance. Cold raindrops start to fall. Atticus grabs my hand, and we laugh and race toward safety, the sky darkening overhead. The barn is within a few hundred feet now, but it’s too late. The rain catches up to us, drenching us to the bone instantly.
“Shit!” Atticus shouts.
I can’t help but laugh when I catch the smile on his face. We finally make it inside, unable to stop laughing while we drip water onto the brick barn floor.
“Hang on. There are some towels out here.” He opens a door I hadn’t noticed when we were in here earlier and steps inside. I peek in and find a vast supply room. There are what I assume are horse blankets and shelves lined with supplies, plus a stackable washer dryer combo in the corner. This barn is awesome, and I can’t believe I’m thinking that. Pretty sure I’ve never given a barn any thought. This country air is starting to do shit to my brain, or maybe it’s the hot hunk of man I can’t seem to stop gawking at.
He grabs a couple towels and a few horse blankets before coming back out.
Lightning streaks across the sky, thunder rolling in the distance. He drops all but one towel to the floor before wrapping it around me.
“I’m glad you came. Sorry about the rain. I can tell nature isn’t your thing. I was trying to win you over to my side.” He rubs my arms underneath the towel to warm me up.
“Yeah, I’m not a nature girl, but this place is amazing. You might have won me over just a bit.” I raise my hand, my forefinger and thumb just a smidgeon apart.
He smiles and kisses my cheek.
“It seems like this storm will last a while. We might as well get cozy,” Atticus suggests as he picks up the discarded blankets, and I follow him over to a stall full of hay bales.
He tosses the blankets down on the hay before straightening them out.
“Have a seat.”
He removes his hat and runs the towel back and forth across his hair a few times before using it to swipe at his muscular arms. I scrunch the ends of my hair with the towel and watch him dry off, looking like a total creeper, but he’s too hot, so I don’t care how creepy I might seem right now. A few moments later, he joins me, and his scent permeates the air around me; it’s all manly, sexy, and totally Atticus. I sniff in an extra breath.
The shift in the air temperature causes goose bumps to break out on my arms.
“You’re cold.” He takes another blanket, wraps it around his shoulders, and pulls me into him. “Let’s get you warmed up.”
