“Don’t even get me started. What a bullshit day. So busy, and Leah didn’t show up, not a call or anything. Can you believe the fucking audacity?”

I want to tell her, but I think it’ll make her angrier at this moment.

“Why don’t you go grab a hot shower and some comfy clothes? By then, dinner should be ready.”

She grins up at me. Using her long nails, she runs them over my scalp.

“What would I do without you?” Her attention lowers and I hope to fucking God we never have to find out.

I turn back to making supper and she heads upstairs.

Looking out over the side yard, I think about how long to keep the women. I know Lucy wants a genuine answer to her research, and I’vedone so well in keeping my promise to help, but the bloodlust is strong and I worry I’ll lose control.

Plating the burgers and adding the salad, I pour her an iced tea and grab my water.

“I gotta do your hair tonight. I almost forgot.”

“If you’re too tired, darlin’, you don’t have to bother about it. We have time,” I tell her and she sits across from me.

“Never! I’ll always keep my word. It’s important to me.”

I grin at her, and we go back to talking about her day as we eat.

“Did you know that I’d rather die than kiss anyone but you?”

“Don’t be an idiot.” She shakes her head and finishes the last bites from her plate.

“I’m not, Lou. You’re the only person I ever want forever.”

“Billy, I love you.”

Lucy squeezes my shoulder and clears the plates. While she does, I read over what she’s written in the past few days.

“This doesn’t work,” I tell her.

“What?”

“Choreography is important. How is he possibly fucking her this way?” I glance from the words on the screen to her face.

“I’ll show you after.” She giggles, but turns back to the dishes. I continue reading and note that we’ll have to check out the position later.

“Did you think about the abduction more?” Her voice is quiet and I stretch, hanging my arm over the chair.

“Yeah, I’ll get it done.”

She grabs my hand and tries to tug me up, but I pull her onto my lap. Lucy wraps her arm around my neck, and I nuzzle against her.

“I’ll let you know what I find out,” I whisper.

“If you don’t want to, it’s—”

I pick her up and haul her over my shoulder before heading up the stairs. “Nope, not interested in whatever you have to say.”

I strip off my shirt, and she grabs the supplies to dye my hair. I stare up at her while she works. Her face is so fucking perfect.

The freckles across her skin are like stars. I want to make wishes on them to keep her forever.

“You gawking at me is annoying.”
