Turning, he starts to run, but I’m already in full stride, and I’m damn fit, training every week on multiple days. I can outrun most of the brothers, as I have an easy pumping action with my arms and legs working in harmony.

I’m nearly at him when a van pulls up, and he throws himself into the side door, which is open, and the vehicle shoots away. I jog to a halt, but not before I notice there is no license plate on the van, so no way to find it, or who owns it.

Back at my hog, BS is sitting astride his, waiting. “What was all that about? I was getting ready to follow you.”

“Fuckin’ hell, BS, I nearly had him. But a van pulled up, and the weasel threw himself into it and they were gone. No plates either.”

“Come on, let’s get back to the clubhouse ‘cause I need to speak with Pres.” BS fires up his girl, and I’m only a minute behind him.

Back at the clubhouse, I follow BS into the office and take a stance beside the door. I listen to the conversation between them but keep quiet as I’ve nothing to add to what is being said.

“Miranda was approached by a sleazy asshole as she came out of the grocery store. He asked her for a date, and she turned him down. He followed her to her car and said next time she was at Club Whisky she’d be calling a different tune.”

BS’ comment catches my attention because that shows something vile is about to happen. “I’m going to speak to the bar staff, bring Silver up-to-date, and see if we can catch this fucker. If it’s the one I chased, then I know what he looks like.”

“Who did you chase?” Axel asks, and I fill him in on what occurred while I was waiting for BS to finish speaking to Miranda.

“BS, fill in Silver and Beer. Make sure all bar staff, including servers and kitchen staff, know what the fuck is going on. We need to catch this bastard and bring him down. If he thinks he can come into our businesses and start shit, he’s got another think coming, and a deadly one!” Axel snarls, and both myself and BS know that is our president speaking and we best make it happen.

“I’m at Club Whisky tonight on duty, but I’ll ask Knuckles to come along. Colton is over at TJs as we are giving him more responsibility, where we are not looking over his shoulder,” I chuckle because I know it’s hard for Colton not to get into a temper at the least little thing, but he has improved of late.

“Okay, you get Knuckles on board, and I’ll speak to Ruger, Sting, and Brag. They’ve been moaning of late that they are bored,” BS grins, then continues, “I’ll speak to Graham too, see if he wants in on a little action.”

“Good idea, BS. Find out how the date night went for Nell and Vitale while you’re at it.” Axel laughs, and both BS and I know that Nell is bound to have caused some form of trouble on the date night.

Walking into the kitchen after I have arranged for Knuckles to come with me to Club Whisky in the evening, I overhear Bitty speaking to Mia, along with Amelia and Sybil.

“That bitch is trying to stitch Blake up. I just know it. I’ve got Specs looking at the DNA report. How much you want to bet it’s fake?” Bitty snips.

“I’m not betting because we all know what Yax is like. She’s the image of her mother, and she was the most horrible of women. I was pleased when she left town and we all know that was because two wives were after her blood for messing with their husbands,” Amelia calmly adds to the conversation as she sips her herb tea.

Mia, I notice, is taking all this in, like a sponge that needs water. “So, you’re saying that this Yax person is pretending that the boy is Blake's husband's child when he isn’t? And that he’s dead, so she’s trying to squeeze the widow for money?”

“Yeah, that’s right.” Bitty nods and looks at Mia expectantly. I also notice that Sybil and Amelia are looking at Mia in the same way.

“We need to get the girl gang on board with this. It stinks, and we’ve not had a mission for a while, so let’s give Bitty’s friend a helping hand.” Mia grins, hugs the Stooges, then rushes out of the kitchen.

Bitty holds her hand in the air, and to my shock Amelia and Sybil high-five with her, and walk away grinning as though to say, ‘Mission accomplished’.

I’m not getting involved in this shit, but I wonder if it’s the same woman who I rescued from the fall? I’m sure she said her name was Blake…

Hearing shouting, I head out the kitchen door and walk towards the treehouse. Now, I don’t know if something has annoyed Meat, but he’s walking around with a fuckin’ G-string on and nothing else. Looking around, I search the area to see if Star is anywhere in sight, but not seeing her, I make my way over to Meat and Star's home.

Knocking on the door, I shout, “Star, you home?”

“Yeah, what’s up?” Star asks as she opens the front door.

“What’s goin’ on with, Meat? He’s walking around the treehouse with only a G-string on.”

Star rolls her eyes, then storms past me mumbling about treehouses don’t have nurseries, and she’s not even pregnant, so who needs a nursery, anyway? ‘Oh,’ I think to myself and decide it’s not worth the hassle to get involved, so jog over to the clubhouse and disappear into the kitchen once more.

“What’s going on?” Mia asks as she looks up from where she’s feeding Summer.

“Meat wants to build a treehouse nursery. Star doesn’t want one because she’s not even pregnant.” I keep walking because I don’t want to get involved in Meat’s issues, because he could get you hung, drawn and quartered without trying.

Thinking back to when Meat first came to the MC, I can’t hold back the smirk. He would walk around that treehouse for hours naked, with a weapon on his shoulder at the ready for whatever may occur. Axel would spend half his time covering Mia’s eyes with his hand. It was amusing, as she’d do all she could to get a good look.

Later that evening, Knuckles is standing beside me at the door of Club Whisky. We are looking at everyone, whether man or woman, for any sign of shiftiness. Turning to speak to Knuckles, who is staring at a middle-aged man who is chatting up a young woman.
