The knock on the door disrupted our conversation. “Come in.”
Syn popped her head in. “Good morning, babes. Us girls ar?—”
“And guy!” Kobe made himself known.
Syn rolled her eyes. “And guy. We’re going to have brunch at the restaurant on the beach… throw anything on.”
“Okay, give me a few minutes.”
“Hams is boarding his flight with Yasin and Kiki now,” Kobe informed us.
I don’t remember how Kobe got invited on the jet, but he was there waiting when I arrived. He couldn’t stop snapping pictures of himself and then spent the rest of the ride talking to me about his relationships.
It was the distraction I needed from thinking about Quasim.
“Why didn’t he fly with you guys?” I questioned, as I looked back at Sim, who had his eyes closed again.
“He and Yasin wanted to make sure their mother was straight.” He replied, never opening his eyes and settling more into the bed.
“Good morning, Kang!” Kobe laughed.
Quasim held his middle finger up as Elijah came out the bathroom. “Is Ryder up?”
“She’s washing her father’s hair.”
“Washing his hair?”
Syn shrugged. “Capri said that’s their thing.”
Elijah headed out the room and Syn closed the door back. Soft snores escaped his nose, as I watched his chest slowly rise and fall. The sun hit his body, and his tattoos seemed like they were shimmering in the sun.
His lips resembled a cloud and softened his scowl that he wore when he slept. Didn’t matter if we just had the best sex, my baby was going to have a scowl when he slept. One of his arms rested behind his head, as his lips twitched.
I’d never pretend to know the things that he has done and will do, but I can imagine it wasn’t easy to do, and it often took sleep away from him. Witnessing him sleep so peacefully, I didn’t want to disturb him because I knew he needed the rest.
Kissing his lips a few times, I felt his hand wrap around me. “Go feed my baby, Anjo.”
I smiled and kissed him again. “Going now… want me to bring you some food back?”
He kept his lips puckered for another kiss, which I gave him. “Yeah, bring me back whatever. I’m gonna sleep for like an hour, and then gonna take Elijah to the beach.”
“Okay.”
I climbed out the bed, and he pulled me back onto him, and wrapped both his arms around me. “We gonna get through anything, right?”
“Yes.”
“So, I don’t need you stressing about nothing. Your cancer isn’t going to come back, our baby is going to be healthy and strong, Elijah isn’t ever leaving, and Augusta Mae will be moved into the house.”
“Why do you think you can solve everything? You didn’t mention my studio.”
He smirked. “Cause as your man, I’m going to solve all your problems. Never leaving you the room to start to spiral… when it comes to you, I’m gonna figure that shit out every time.”
I smiled as I slipped out the bed and went to get myself ready for the beach.
By the time I was ready, Ryder was massaging oil into her father’s locs, while he was half asleep in the chair. “Meer, you need rest like your brother is getting.”
“He don’t listen.”
