What felt like an eternity later,Milena stepped onto the wet street, the dawn still hours away. After she ended her call to Mr. Kelly, she’d phoned Al, asking him to bring the envelope and to alert Marco and the other men in her father’s inner circle of his death. She’d gathered her belongings, packed a few things of her father’s she wanted to keep, and then spent the next three hours having her cheeks kissed and condolences spread around her.
Once they took her father’s body away, she’d turned to Al, who revealed she and her father had chosen the same man to lead the Rossi Family, Kevin Kelly.
“Milena?”
The sound of her name startled her, bringing her out of the conversation where Kevin agreed to take the reins of the Family.
“Gil?” Confused, Milena looked around her, ready to run back into the hospital. “You’re supposed to be in jail.”
Raising his hand in surrender, “I know, but I can explain.”
“Explain how you pretended to be my friend? My brother? All while terrorizing me?”
“It wasn't me, I swear.”
Tossing her hands in the air, “Oh, like I haven't heard that line before.”
Keeping his hands raised, “I never pretended, Milena. I have always, and will forever be, your brother. If you give me five minutes, I can explain everything.”
Milena considered her options long enough for a wave of dizziness to hit. “Fine, but not here. I need to eat something…” She trailed off as Gil’s face grew blurry and everything around her faded to black.
