AJ: Both. You seem big into music.
Lisa: Isn’t everyone?
AJ: You’d be surprised. My ex, Ange wasn’t.
Way to go, bright spark. Bring up the ex on day three.
Lisa: Definitely sounds like she wasn’t the right kind of girl for you.
And the more I learn about you, the more and more perfect you seem to be… Can we find some warts, please? Something, anything so I can just get past this ridiculous crush and stop daydreaming about the cute Irish girl?
***
AJ: So, I was thinking…
Lisa: Did it hurt?
AJ: Hey now! Ok, perhaps a little. Do you think I could maybe call you sometime?
AJ: It’s ok if you don’t want to. Please don’t feel pressured.
AJ: I scared you off, didn’t I? I promise I’m not crazy. Ok, wait. That’s a lie. I’m absolutely bat-shit crazy, but I’m not a psychopath.
Lisa: Sure. I bet all psychopaths openly admit to being psychopaths.
She makes a good point. But she also didn’t say no.
AJ chuckled as he packed up his bag and left campus. This back and forth via text had become quite the staple in his daily routine. He’d barely noticed that they’d been talking for weeks and not days anymore.
Lisa: I was peeing. Sorry.
AJ: No problem.
Is that a no to calling you?
Why am I so damn NEEDY?
Lisa: Where are you right now?
AJ: I just got home from class. I was going to have a snack.
Where are we on the calling you thing?
Why are you so hellbent on calling her?
You still stink of desperation.
AJ: Why do you ask?
Lisa: I’m in bed, I figured there’s no time like the present to chat if you have a minute?
AJ took a deep breath and stared at her message on the screen. He hadn’t planned on calling her right away. He knew that it wasn’t a good idea to begin with, but something about this girl drove him to behave in a way he knew wasn’t completely rational, or reasonable.
You’re marrying Britt. You’re marrying Britt. You’re marrying Britt. Tomorrow, AJ. You’re marrying her tomorrow.
Don’t get too close.
She’s just a friend. Right?
