“I loved it! What a vibrant and interesting city – and I feel like we barely scratched the surface.”

“I’d hoped you’d like it,” she seemed relieved.

“You doubted?”

“I dunno, I just think Northern Ireland is a very misunderstood place. We have so much to offer and a lot of people just associate us with being politically broken. There’s so much more to it here, and I’m proud of it all.”

“I can tell. Even the yellow cranes. You’re adorable, you know.”

She blushed, “I can’t help it. When I see them, I know exactly where I am. They’re like a beacon, reminding people they’re home as they fly overhead.”

And just like that, they were more than just canary yellow cranes at the shipyard.

Chapter 33

Holy shit this place is beautiful!

“How do you ever leave here?” he asked her, slowly taking it all in.

She was clearly pleased with herself, “It’s one of my favorite places. A bit far away, though. I think I’d come here daily if I lived closer!”

“It’s breathtaking.”

“Yeah, even Jeremy is quiet – what the hell, like?”

“I heard that,” Jeremy chirped. “But he’s right, Lis. This is incredible. I can just imagine the sunrises and sunsets here…” he trailed off, clearly in his own thoughts.

I don’t blame him. I’m running out of words to describe this place.

“Do you know anything about the rocks and stuff here at the Causeway, Lis?”

“As a matter of fact, Mr. Williams, I do. They are basalt hexagonal columns that are the result of an ancient volcanic fissure.”

“Shit, you sound smart,” Jeremy marveled.

Even the crashing waves over the rocks looked like something straight out of a magazine to AJ. “I’m completely blown away.”

“Aye, it’s a bit gusty up round these parts,” she winked at him.

“Seriously, though. Do people get married here? We should get married here,” he stopped abruptly and looked at her. Her eyes were a mix of pain and hope. He took her in his arms and turned her so her back was flush against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her middle and rested his chin on her shoulder. “Thank you for taking me here,” he whispered through her wind-blown hair. “It’s pretty magical.”

They stood in comfortable silence for a few minutes wrapped in each other’s arms watching the waves crash over the rocks. He could even smell the difference in the air.

I can practically taste the salt.

“So, a giant, eh?” Jeremy broke the silence, referring to the landmark, the Giant’s Causeway’s fabled giant.

Jeremy always breaks the friggin’ silence.

“Yeah,” Lisa answered wistfully. She seemed to be clinging to the solace of the waves for as long as she could.

“You think he was proportionate?” Jeremy grinned.

“Do I think what?” The spell of the waves was broken and Lisa turned to face Jeremy with a look of confusion on her face.

“Y’know,” he gestured downward with his head.

She’s still confused. Help the girl out, AJ.
