She chewed her lip and looked into his eyes, “What is?”

“I think you know precisely what I’m talking about, Miss Millar.”

“You’re hard to read this evening, Pim. I guess you’re playing your cards close to your chest. I know what’s drivingmeinsane, but for you, I’m gonna need a hint.”

Deciding he’d let his body speak for itself, he pulled her hips against his and heard her gasp.

“Do you still need a hint?” He grinned at her and in a moment of panicked second-guessing himself he apologized.

“You don’t need to apologize,” she blushed. “I’m just glad it’s not just me feeling…things.I couldn’t stop gazing across the table at you, I was imagining tearing your clothes off and jumping your bones.”

“Definitely not just you,” he murmured into her ear.

Christ, I hope tonight’s the night. Or I may actually be the first person in the history of the world to die from sexual frustration.

Chapter 17

When they got back to AJ’s place, Lisa excused herself to the bathroom. Feeling uncharacteristically nervous at the prospect of being alone in his home with a remarkable woman, he sat down, picked up his guitar and started tuning it.

Calm down. You’ve slept with women before, AJ. This is not new territory. Why are you so antsy?

“Sing for me?” she asked quietly as she leaned against the doorframe.

He hadn’t heard her come back, nor did he ask what song. He didn’t have to. He’d written her a song when they first met online. She was his muse and the lyrics flowed freely. He’d penned a number of songs during the time they’d been together, somehow she pushed him to delve deep into the pool of innerstuffand he really liked the music he was creating as a result.

As he sang, she walked up behind him and slipped her arms around his shoulders. When the song finished, he barely paused before he started to play a second, a duet, he had long wanted to sing with her. It was one of their favorites.

He’d never sung with her before and his nerves about singing in front of her had largely evaporated as he’d sung the first song. He could tell she was nervous as she closed her eyes and listened. Her voice was a little shaky at first when she joined in but she tried to hide it.

Singing with her was proving to be every bit as enjoyable as he’d expected it to be. He could see she started nervously, but forgot herself in the music once she really got into it.

She leaned forward and kissed his cheek as her singing faded and left him solo. She kissed him again, soft, little kisses along his jawline, and again slightly below at the top of his neck. He stopped singing, tilted his head slightly towards her and she kissed him again. He carefully sat down his guitar, and, without moving, he guided her in front of him and took her hands in his own. He pulled her towards him and turned slightly so he could kiss her on the lips. Deeply.

Of course you need to pee right now. The most inopportune timing of the evening.

Ok, probably not the most inopportune moment. Best go now, before you end up having to pick a worse moment to excuse yourself.

“Hold that thought?” he asked when they finished kissing. She looked at him quizzically. “I really, really need to pee,” he answered, blushing.

Please find this cute and not at all insulting.

She burst out laughing, he laughed too. He felt so comfortable with her, as though he didn’t need airs and graces. Things like telling her he needed to pee, or bumping heads with her when they kissed seemed totally normal and part of their everyday life. Nothing felt awkward when they were together. It was as though they’d always been together. She felt like home. Standing up, he didn’t let go of her hand. He kissed it and smiled. He went to the bathroom while she sat on his bed.

When he returned, he stood in front of her and took her hands. Getting back to her feet, she slipped her arms around his neck.

“Did you have fun tonight?” he asked her.

“Yes, I did, actually. Did you?”

“I always have fun when I’m with you.”

“How do you get away with calling me cheesy whenyousay stuff like that?” she giggled playfully and nudged his nose with hers.

“Well. Cheesy or not, it’s true,” he told her, nudging her back. “Have I mentioned how amazing you look tonight?” he finished.

He watched as color rushed to her cheeks and couldn’t help smiling at her.

Ignoring the compliment, she said, “You should wear a tux more often. You look good, Pim,” she said. “You look very, very good.”
