I’m a divorce away from bliss,he thought as he glanced at Lisa’s table and found her gone.

Getting a drink from the bar maybe? He glanced at the bar and saw his opponent from the fight during the game, standing with his back to the stage and cornering Lisa against the bar.

Shit.

Keep singing. Signal Jer at the interlude.

He whistled at Jeremy during the instrumental, caught his attention and signaled him to go give Lisa some back-up.

Just in case,he thought as he saw Lisa scream something and grab the guy blocking her path. He quickly slumped to the floor.

What the fuck did he do to her?Anger flared in his stomach as he watched her storm out of the bar, with Jeremy close behind.I’m going to kill him,he thought as he watched Dwight, the guy he had fought with on the ice, pull himself up off the floor, using a barstool for support. The bartender called security and AJ sat fuming as Dwight was thrown out of the bar.

As soon as the song finished, he called a time-out with the band and took off through the crowd toward the emergency side door Dwight had just been tossed out of. Chelsea blocked his path.

“Nope.”

“Excuse me?”

“Go afterher. Nothim. We don’t need you arrested for murdering him. He tried to touch her. Go find Lisa. Now.”

Shit, she’s right.

He spun on his heel and took off out the door Lisa and Jeremy had gone through.

“I’m here!” AJ shouted from behind Jeremy as he sprinted to catch them up.

“Talk to you later, yeah, Lis?” Jeremy gave her shoulder a little squeeze. “You done good. You kicked his ass.”

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there,” he whispered through her hair as he pulled her to him and wrapped her tightly in his arms.

I’m going to fucking kill him.

“It’s ok,” she choked. “I could handle it. He just pissed me off. You can’t play tomorrow night, AJ,” she warned. “Youneedto sit this one out. Please, AJ!”

She really doesn’t sound ok. Not that I blame her. That fucking oaf.

“Babe, I’ll be fine,” he assured her. “I can handle him.”

I will handle him.

“But he has it in for you, and now I embarrassed him in the bar. He probably knows I’m with you, and he’s gonna be even more wound up!”

“I couldn’t really see what was going on, but Jer said you kicked his ass, babe,” he smiled. “I am very proud of you,” he kissed her forehead, “but please, try not to worry. I promise I’ll be fine.”

“You can’t break promises, you know,” she said weakly.

“I know,” he kissed her again.

“Did you hit him?”

“No ma’am, you did a good enough job. I didn’t need to.”

“Liar! You mean you wanted to kick his ass some more, but Chelsea or someone told you to forget about him and come find me?”

She could tell, even in the dark, that color was filling his cheeks. “You know me too well,” he replied as he kissed her yet again. “Do you want to file a police report?” he asked her seriously.

She shook her head.
