"Hold that thought, baby." I answered the call. "Omar... tell me something good."
"Finally found that missing dinosaur. I have it over on Conner and Gratiot."
"Best news I heard all fucking night, Omar. I'm on my way."
"See you soon."
I hung up and looked over at Kenzi.
"My uncle found Nino, so I gotta go handle this tonight."
"Oh... okay. You be careful, Mekai. Please come back to me and bring my brother and bestie back with you."
"Always, baby." I kissed Kenzi's lips, got out, and walked her to the door. I put in a call to one of my members to watch the house then got back in my truck and sped off, happy that I could kill something tonight besides pussy.
"You really wasn't gon' tell me you found him?" Jax asked as soon as I stepped out of the truck.
My MCR members were all in attendance, even though I didn't need them all to be. However, my rule was always one band, one sound, so seeing them here didn't surprise me.
"You here, ain't you?" I asked.
Yeah, I was still salty about what happened tonight. My and Jax's relationship remained solid because he never brought her around me or forced me to have a relationship with Shayna, but to hear him tell her she didn't have to leave had me vexed. I knew I shouldn't be mad at him. It wasn't his fault he received the good side of Shayna. It just hurt to see that their relationship was good while my relationship with her was dust. In my own selfish way, I wanted my brother to hate her with me.
"Whatever, nigga. Let's get this shit over with."
"You didn't have to come. Go be with your family... maybe invite ya moms over so y'all can celebrate Father's Day and shit."
Jax stared at me before he scoffed and chuckled.
"Grow up, Kai. I get why you're upset, but it's been over twenty years. You'll be thirty-eight this year, and you're still holding on to that hurt she caused you. I was there, Kai. I saw it all, and Dad and I always protected you. I offered to take you to therapy, but you refused. You're only angry because you won't let that shit go."
"Put yourself in my shoes, nigga. She never laid a fucking finger on you. She praised you every chance she got and used to tell you that you looked better than me because you had a better skin color. She would feed you and Pops but force me to make my own food."
"I was there, Kai. I saw the shit too."
"So, you should know that having the woman who birthed you treat you worse than a dog ain't an easy thing to just get over. The bitch never apologized. She never tried to make shit right with me... but now, it's too late. I don't want her fake ass love. Had she come forth when I was still a teenager, I would have probably forgiven her. Now, that crippled bitch can rot in hell for all I give a fuck."
"I'm off that shit. I can't make you do shit you don't want to do. I just don't want to be at odds with your stubborn ass."
"Then next time, remove that broad from my presence."
"You niggas want to stand out here on bullshit, or are y'all coming inside?" I heard Omar yell from across the way. We were at an old factory that sat far back away from the main road.
I looked around but didn't see Gruesome.
"Where's Grue?" I asked as we approached the door. I could hear Nino's screams coming from inside.
"Handling his business inside. Come on," Omar said, waving us inside.
We all walked in and took the stairs down to the main floor. In the center of the room, Grue was taking a sledgehammer to Nino's knees. His legs dangled as if they were detachable, while his face looked as if animals had feasted on it. In the corner, tied to a chair, Nani sat crying.
"Damn, Grue. I guess you couldn't wait for us, huh?" I asked.
"Nah, this pussy touched my sister and didn't honor the code of the streets. You don't fuck with women or children."
"I can dig it. Why the fuck is she here, though?"
"You told us to grab her up, OG," Loon, my little hitta, spoke up.
