Her eyes teared up at the prospect of seeing him again. She nodded and smiled. “I can’t wait.”

When Gavin greetedSophie in the lobby of his Manhattan hotel, he held her so tightly she felt dizzy. And when he released her it was only slightly so that he could kiss her.

“I can’t tell you how much I missed you, darlin’,” he breathed into her neck.

“Oh, tell me, tell me!” she said with a laugh.

He looked into her eyes, a smile playing at his lips. “You’re it, Sophie. You’re the one.”

His simple declaration revealed his unwavering and absolute certainty about their reunion, and it mirrored her feelings as well. It sent relief and joy coursing through her body. But instead of letting herself be overcome by the emotion of the moment, she changed the subject to something she knew he would have no trouble resisting.

With a mischievous smile, she grabbed his hips and said, “You’d better take me somewhere private—and quick. I’ve had five hours on that plane to think about naughty things.”

“Good Christ,” he murmured, shaking his head. “I do love you.”

“Show me how much,” she whispered into his ear as they stepped into the elevator.

He responded by dropping her bag to the floor, pulling her body hard against his with an arm around her waist, cupping her cheek with his other hand, and kissing her deeply.

“Oh, uh, maybe?—“

They broke apart to find a woman with her young son hesitating to join them in the elevator.

“Apologies,” Gavin said. He waved an arm to indicate they should step in.

Once they had and the doors closed, the woman turned her back to them. But the boy, about six years old, kept facing them, looking up at Sophie with a slightly opened mouth.

“I know what you mean,” Gavin said to the kid. “She’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, too.” He gave him a wink and the kid broke out into a grin.

“Is she your girlfriend?”

“Nathan, leave them be,” the woman said curtly.

“Even better, lad. She’s myfiancée. That means I’m going to marry her and make her mine forever.”

“Wow,” the boy breathed.

“Let’s go, Nathan,” the woman said as the doors opened on their floor.

The kid had to be tugged out while he kept his eyes on Sophie. She smiled and waved at him.

When the doors closed, Gavin pulled her close again. “That kid is going to fantasize about blondes in lifts for the rest of his life,” he said before pressing his lips to hers once more.

“All I want is to be your fantasy,” she told him.

He moaned and bit her bottom lip. “You have no fucking idea, darlin’.”

The doors opened on their floor and he reluctantly pulled away so he could retrieve her bag. Grabbing her hand, he pulled her so quickly to his room that she giggled at his impatience.

Not that she didn’t feel the very same need to be with him. Their time in Los Angeles had been so brief. They’d barely gotten reacquainted and definitely hadn’t been sated.

As soon as they were inside his room, they reached for each other, pulling at clothes, lips and tongues desperately exploring, and hands roaming feverishly.

“Wait,” Sophie said breathlessly. “Maybe I should take a quick shower. I’ve been on a plane for?—“

“After. I need you now.”

They were stripped down to their underwear and it was clear by the sizable bulge straining against his boxer briefs that he had no desire to wait a second longer. To press the point, he grabbed her around the waist and lifted her up so that she wrapped both her arms and legs around him.
