Aaron grins. “Obviously. I got our favourite, and some crap for Elijah,” Aaron snickers, making me cock a brow.

“I still have faith that one day he will like it.” Liam rolls onto his side and pulls out one of the ginger beer cans, holding it out to me. “Try it.”

“Gross, I ain’t having that shit. I’ll stick to my Coca-Cola,” I say, watching him with distaste as he opens the can and takes a big gulp.

Aaron flips open the pizza box as I turn the music up on the gym speakers before grabbing a slice and taking a bite.

“So, are you ready for tomorrow?” Aaron asks me as he takesa few fries.

I look at him, knowing the severity of what’s to come. I nod. “Yeah, as ready as can be. I need him gone, for the betterment of my family. Scarlett, Indy, Jessica. He’s so fucked up it’s insane. And he’s strong… too fucking strong,” I sigh heavily, taking another bite of pizza. “I just wish Scarlett didn’t need to have to face him again, but it’s her pack.”

“And you can’t bring yourself to ask her to sit it out,” Aaron remarks.

“She’s an alpha. An alpha doesn’t sit this shit out. Just because she’s a woman doesn’t make it any different,” I reply. Even though I’d love her to be safe and protected here, it just isn’t going to work. And I realise that’s something I’m going to have to accept all my life. I’m not in love with a woman who needs my protection, a woman who will sit at home and allow me to risk my life… but I’m in love with a woman who will be out there by my side, fighting right next to me, as my equal.

A small smile twitches the corner of my mouth, and I realise that’s perfect. She’s perfect the way she is. I have a badass mate, one who I’ll have with me in all aspects of life.

“Alright, we get it. You can quit with that mushy face,” Aaron snickers.

“Enough about me, you’re going to be a dad soon. Are you ready for that?” I ask, making Liam snicker.

“I highly doubt he is,” he remarks lightly, making Aaron throw a few fries at him.

“I’m fine. We’re considering some names; she’s had a scan, and I know I ain’t seen him properly yet but he is goddamn cute.”

“I don’t doubt that, I can’t imagine you as a dad though.”Liam smiles, “I think I’ll be the favourite uncle.”

I scoff. “No, I think I will be.”

Liam and Aaron both look at me wearing matching expressions of disbelief. “I doubt it. Are you even good with kids?” Aaron asks.

“Asshole,” I counter.

“But you’ll probably have kids soon too,” Aaron muses. “Our future Alpha…”

Liam smiles, “They’ll be cute pups, too.” There’s warmth in his eyes, but a glimmer of sadness too.

A reminder of the unrequited love from a woman who will never be his.

“They sure will be,” Aaron agrees. “Maybe our pups will be friends.”

“No doubt they will be, considering they will be future Alpha and Beta,” Liam adds.

“Oh yeah, about that. I think I want to change that, like I get that our betas and deltas are chosen by blood, but I want those who are the most capable to get those titles.”

“You mean to let the alpha choose his own second and third in command?” Aaron asks curiously.

I nod. “Yeah. Like Hank, I never really liked him before all his shit came out.” I look over at Liam. I still need to talk to him about it, but regardless of his opinion, I have made my decision. “We never had a bond, the kind I’d want with my Delta. But right now that position is open and I want you, Liam, to take the title of Delta when I become Alpha.”

He looks surprised before a small frown creases his brows. “You don’t need to do that-”

“I’m doing it for me, not you. You’re strong, and the one worthy to be my Delta, so that choice is mine to make. You know I don’t do favours,” I clarify, sounding cocky.

Aaron nods. “Yeah, we’re a team, man. Just accept that you are fucking awesome and it’s why you get to hang with us.”

“Right. And you don’t get to choose,” I reply dismissively.

Liam smiles slightly. “Sure, sounds great.”
