Page 89 of Taming You

Matt leans against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest as he watches us with the softest smile.

“Why don’t you get some sleep? You’ve been up for hours,” I say, and he shakes his head vehemently.

“No, I want to be with you two.”

I shake my head, but the smile won’t leave my face. When Jayden finishes his bottle, I burp him and quickly change his diaper before settling him back in his crib. Matt takes my hand, and I follow him back to bed, crawling under the covers and into his side.

As he runs his hand softly up and down my back, he says, “You’re so good with him. I hope he grows up and realizes just how lucky we are to have you.”

I rest my chin on his chest and look up at him. “I’m just as lucky to have you two.”

He kisses my forehead, and I rest on his chest again, allowing the exhaustion of the day to finally catch up with me.

The next morning, I find Matt and Jayden downstairs with Jayden in his highchair with baby cereal and Matt at the stove cooking. I have no words to describe the joy I feel every time Jayden shows just how excited he is to see me like he does right now. I make my way over to him quickly and pepper his cheek with kisses as he squeals.

“So, it’s always him first,” Matt jokes.

Leaving Jayden, I move over to Matt and wrap my arms around his neck as his come around me and find my ass. I grin up at him. “Good morning, baby.”

His grin widens. “Call me that again.”

I raise a brow. “Baby?”

He nods. “I like the sound of it coming from you.”

I bite my lip to hold back my growing smile. “Good morning, baby.”

He leans down and kisses me. “Good morning, Bug.”

Stepping out of his arms and pouring myself a cup of coffee, I check the stove behind him and see pancakes and lick my lips as he chuckles and shakes his head. I take a seat at the kitchen island beside Jayden’s highchair and make faces at him while he plays with his cereal, occasionally pushing a few pieces into his mouth.

“So,” I start, and Matt looks at me over his shoulder. “That gala I’ve been helping Maggie with is next Saturday. Maggie wants me to go and see what I helped with and said I could bring someone. Would you—will you be my date?”

He turns the element off and places a plate of pancakes in front of me. “Of course, I’ll be your date. I’ll be your date to every event.”

I grin as he hands me a fork.

“Now dig in before they get cold.”

I take a bite and moan around the chocolaty flavour. “These are so good.”

“I’m glad you approve.”

We eat, talking to each other and Jayden, and when we finish, I clean up the kitchen while he takes Jayden upstairs and gets him changed.

When Matt comes back downstairs, he wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me into him. “Now, do Jayden and I get to enjoy your company today?”

“I’m sure I could be convinced,” I say, and he pinches my side.

“These two handsome faces aren’t enough for you?” he says playfully.

“These two handsome faces are all I need,” I say, much more serious.

All his joking falls away as he leans down and presses his lips to my forehead, whispering, “I’m glad.”

We head to the living room and play with Jayden until he’s ready for his first nap, and then Matt and I settle on the couch with me tucked into his side as we watch a movie. Matt manages to convince me to spend another night with him and Jayden, and I’m quickly realizing I don’t think I ever want to leave.
