After everyone’s laughter dissipates, I continue. “From the moment we first met, I knew there was something about you that called to me, and I choose you, today and every day forward,mo ghrá. With you, my life is complete.”

By the end of my vows, we are both in tears, and thankfully, the pastor doesn’t skip a beat telling me to kiss my bride.

I pull her close to me and kiss her to the whooping andhollering of those around us. After we break apart, I whisper to her, “You aremo anam cara, my soul mate, and nowmo theaghlach, my family.”

She leans in and kisses me softly again before we turn to the crowd and are announced as husband and wife, Mr. and Mrs. O’Sullivan.

As I look around our backyard, I realize that less than a year ago, I was feeling so alone after the passing of my mam, worried I would never have this feeling of being home, of having a family who loved me.

I smile, looking around at our friends and my newfound family and chuckle.

“What is it?” Gwen asks, curiosity in her starburst eyes.

“Just thinking, there was a time when I thought I would never be happy again, but now . . . after bumping into you, I have found my happiness. Now I get forever with you.”
