I gave him my best flirty face. "I'm not complaining."
He laughed as the friend walked by again, shooting us a strange look like he wasn't sure whether to smile or glare.
"What's that about?" I asked.
Kieran sighed. "I think my friends are finding it weird to see me with someone else. Some of them knew Christina from high school, before they even knew me."
"Ah, I see."
"But I'm here with you tonight, not them, and they'll get used to it. If they don't..." He shrugged. "Well, they're not really good friends then, are they?"
Good point, and once again, I found myself impressed by his maturity.
Grabbing my hand, he led me to the bar. "Let's get a drink and find a good spot. And in the future, maybe we'll go somewhere else away from my friends."
At the crowded counter, we squeezed together to order then waited for our drinks.
"So where's your friend Bear?" Kieran asked me.
"He's sick," I said, frowning.
"Good." He smiled, but it quickly changed to a straight face. "I mean, that's too bad."
I elbowed him. "Hey, Bear'sthenicest guy."
His eyebrows shot up. "Thenicest guy? You don't think I'm the nicest guy?"
"You're pretty close, now that I know you better. But in the beginning..." I teased.
Rubbing his forehead, he groaned. "Don't remind me. I was such an ass. My only excuse is I was really worried about Kara."
"I know. I know," I admitted, letting him off the hook with a smile.
Looking hurried, the bartender handed us our drinks as Kieran left some money on the bar. The place was jam-packed tonight for some reason, but we managed to make it over to one side of the crowd. I craned my neck to see if I could find Kara anywhere, wanting to make sure she was okay.
"Looking for my sister?" Kieran asked.
"Yes. Just wondering if she found Gen."
Kieran glanced around for a second, having the advantage of height. "I see her. Uh, yeah. They definitely found each other," he said, obviously grossed out.
"That bad?"
He turned his gaze back toward me, grimacing. "Let's just stay on this side of the club the rest of the night."
Laughing, I nodded my head. "Agreed."
As I turned to face the stage, his arms went around me, and with a deep sigh of happiness, I settled back into him, my drink in one hand, my other reaching for his. I couldn't believe how amazing he felt—his chin on my head, his strong chest against my back, his fingers intertwined with mine.
Smiling, I remembered just last week how we'd been so awkward with each other and unsure of even the slightest touch. We'd actually come pretty far in such a short time, a shiver shooting down my spine while thinking about what was still to come.
I was ready to go further with Kieran... a lot further. But for once in my life, I wasn't so sure that was what he wanted. He seemed like the type of guy who would take things slow and not just jump into bed with someone.
Maybe for once in my life, I'd cool my jets and let it happen organically, even if I was normally impatient as hell and not used to waiting. But it would be pure agony, I thought, as I felt his body surrounding mine.
For hours, we danced close to each other, sometimes face-to-face, sometimes kissing, but always touching, making my body come alive, making me want him even more. God, I was dying to have him after feeling him all night long, and I thought about how that could even happen.
There was no way we could hook up in our dorm. I couldn't ask Kara to hang out in the lounge while I got it on with her brother. Another guy, sure. But Kieran? That would just be... ugh.
