“Good luck?” I raise a single eyebrow at him, wondering what he’s talking about. “What do I need luck for? Am I in a race today or something?”
He chuckles and shakes his head.“No, but I did hear that Elisabetta Franco is starting today.”
“Oh, yes, that’s today.”
“Don’t tell me you forgot,” he says, smirking, knowing full well that I didn’t forget.
“No.” I look at my watch. “In fact, I’m about to call her because she’s running late.”
“She is?” He looks at his watch.
“It’s seven a.m. You know I like my assistants to start early.”
Remington presses his lips together.“I guess that is true.”
I smirk."If you want to tell me off for how hard I worked Juniper, now would be the time to do it.”
“I didn’t say any such thing,” he says.
“You and I both know that Juniper was not happy working for me.”
He shakes his head."Let’s be real. None of them were happy working for you, not Juniper, not Skye, and not Lila, so what makes you think that Elisabetta is going to be any different?”
“I don’t,” I say shrugging, “and maybe that’s why I want her to work for me.”
“What?” He looks confused. “That makes no sense.”
“I mean, it makes sense if you were playing with the deck of cards I’m playing with.”
“What are you talking about, Liam?”
“Nothing that you need to know about,” I say, smiling. “Anyway, we should talk about my Mediterranean deal.”
“The Mediterranean deal?” He frowns and scratches his head. “Which one was that again?”
“The hotels that I want to buy in Greece and Italy.”
“Oh, yeah, the resorts. You said you were going to set one up in Turks and Caicos, as well, right?”
“I will, but I have to ensure that this deal goes through before I invest in the Caribbean. You understand that, right?”
“I mean, of course, I understand that you’re not going to put good money into bad, so how can we help you? I haven’t seen any more information from Franco Delorean about the deal. Should I be giving him a call?”
“No, not yet,” I say, shaking my head. I want to tell him more, but I know that I can’t, not with him being so close to everything, and probably from here on out I should say nothing at all. “The lead person on the other side won’t be Franco Delorean,” I say with a smooth face, “but I’ll let you know who to contact.”
“You’re making me nervous here, Liam. What’s going on?”
“Just the deal of a lifetime,” I say, smirking. “You know I love those.”
“Well, you do know the saying, right, Liam?”
“What saying?” I stare at him for a couple of seconds.
“If something sounds and looks too good to be true, it probably is.”
“Oh, trust me,” I say, shaking my head. “This is not too good to be true. It’s a very complicated situation, maybe even more complicated by what I have to do to ensure that it goes through.”
“You’re not going to do anything illegal, are you, Liam? You know we here at the firm don’t advocate for any?—”
