“Well, this one will definitely go over the fireplace.” He kissed Gretchen’s lips. “I love it.”

Gretchen tilted her head. “So, what did you have for me?”

Kian took her hand and led her to the sofa in the room. They both sat down.

“I was going to ask you to move in with me—” Kian started.

“Was?”Gretchen interrupted.

“Yes, but I’m not going to—”

“Why the hell not, Doyle?” she demanded.

Kian lowered his head, let out a sigh, and then looked into her eyes. “Because...”

“Because why?” Gretchen urged.

He got up from the couch, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a small velvet box, causing her to widen her eyes and gasp. Then he knelt down on one knee.

“Because I want to marry you. I thought about us living together first, but I know what I want in my life and that’s you, Gretchen. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He opened the box to reveal a stunning diamond set in platinum that reflected beams of light onto the walls. “Will you marry me?”

“You want to marry me?” Gretchen asked incredulously.

“Yes,” Kian replied with conviction. “I love you more than anything in this world.”

Tears streamed down Gretchen’s cheeks as she smiled at him. “I love you too.”

“So?” Kian prompted.

She couldn’t take her eyes off the ring; it was the most beautiful ring she had ever seen. “That had to be expensive, Kian.”

“I can afford it. If you don’t like it, we can pick out anotherone.”

“Your parents don’t act like they’re rich.”

“That’s not the type of people they are. Killian and I are the same way. We don’t flaunt our wealth. So, will you marry me?”

“Yes!”

“Hold on. You’re sure it’s not because I’m rich?” He raised an eyebrow.

She threw her arms around his neck. “You could be dirt poor, and I’d still marry you. Plus, I make good money selling my paintings.”

He took the ring out of its box, slid it onto her finger, then kissed her knuckles.

“What about your cabin?”

“I want to keep it. We can go there some weekends.”

“That sounds great.” He stood up, pulled her to her feet, then led her out of the room.

“Where are we going?”

“Inside.”

“Why?”

“Because I have something else for you... and yes, I’m talking aboutthat.”

Gretchen laughed as he led her out of the barn, across the yard, and into the house. This man meant everything to her, and she promised to always make him happy because she knew he would do the same for her. She was grateful that Lobo found him in the snow and led her to him. He was the man she was destined to find.
