“Louisiana! Wait.” Nova began sobbing. “You promised…Why are you ignoring me? I wouldn’t have come with Ainsley if you’d answered my calls. You didn’t even respond to the nude photo.”

He didn’t answer. He just carried Jinx inside and left Nova crying in my arms.

“You lied to me, Nova,” Ainsley accused.

“Oh, grow up, Ainsley,” she snarled around her tears. “Life isn’t only about you. I needed to see Louisiana and you were my ticket in.”

Ainsley opened her mouth, but I shook my head. I wanted to know why she’d come. I didn’t have time for a bitch fight. I especially couldn’t allow Razor to find her here. Roman Mac’s life was spared because of Ainsley. He knew who she was and would just as soon kill her for when the next time arose.

The prospects on duty—two at the gate and two patrolling the property—had gathered around to take in the scene with infuriating interest. I nodded to the one who’d summoned me.

He jogged over. “Yeah, Sarge?”

Setting Nova on her feet, I nudged her toward him. “Watch her until I’m done with her.” I pointed to Ainsley.

Licking his lips, he swept his gaze over Ainsley. It was so fucking hard not to pluck his eyeballs the fuck out of his head. Which pissed me the fuck off. I wasn’t a jealous fuckhead. I wasn’t possessive. And I wasn’t a stars-in-his-eyes pussy who turned into a pussy-whipped wretch.

Grabbing Ainsley’s arm, I dragged her into the clubhouse. I didn’t see Jinx or Louisiana, but I feared for his fucking life with all the glass breaking and wood splintering. As I climbed the stairs and drew closer to my room, the noise increased. I understood why Louisiana wouldn’t take her to their house. Unless he tied her up, she would’ve attacked him on the waythere. And if hehadtied her up, well, I’d be pulling out my leathers and white gloves for his fucking funeral.

Once I unlocked my door and turned on the light, I released Ainsley. Slamming the door behind us, I stormed to her. She wasn’t wearing make-up today, but she was still stunning. Thick, dark lashes ringed her whiskey-colored eyes. Eyes that could touch my fucking soul and crack it wide open.

Her smooth olive skin, high cheekbones, a straight nose, and full lips haunted me.

“You have two fucking minutes to tell me why you’re here, Ainsley.”

She opened her mouth, but I raised my hand.

“I told you to lose my fucking number.”

“Did I dial it?” she snapped, her eyes flashing.

“It would’ve been better than showing up at my fucking clubhouse, smart ass.”

“You blocked me! What did you expect me to do, asshole?”

“Fuck all! I don’t want to fucking see you. If I did, I would’ve come to you. Get out of here. Don’t fucking come back. Lose my number. Forget my address—”

She thumped my shoulder. “Fine. Fuck you, by the way. You didn’t even let me explain.”

“That Roman Mac’s your fucking brother? No explanation needed, Ainsley. I saw all I needed to see.”

She heaved in another breath. It seemed as if she was holding herself together by a thread. She looked so fucking young and vulnerable. The stark pain and misery in her eyes almost undid me. But we were on two different sides, and it would never work. I wouldn’t leave my fucking club under any circumstances and she couldn’t be a part of my life here. Even if I didn’t question her loyalties, Razor and the rest of my brothers would. If one thing went awry, I would be looked upon with evenmore suspicion than I had been since I released Roman Mac. I allowed him to live.

I stiffened my resolve. “Go.”

She twisted her hands together. “I’m pregnant,” she whispered. “With your baby, Reese.”

The announcement slammed into me with the velocity of a speeding bullet. I searched her face, looking for signs of deception. Hoping she was fucking with me. She wasn’t. Her fear and panic was as real as my disbelief.

“You fucking told me you weren’t fertile. You had three days.”

The detail I remembered went over her head. Thankfully.

“I-I c-counted wrong. It was wrong. I was wrong.”

“You’re going into your tenth week, and you’ve just decided to tell me, Ainsley?”

She blinked. “T-ten weeks? You…you…That was a quick calculation.”
