“You should wear dresses all the time,” he muttered, shoving her skirt up to her waist and dragging her forward over his erection.

The pounding of her pulse was so loud his voice sounded muffled, and her body shook with the need to get closer to him. Alex hooked his fingers in the lace, ripping the thin material when it caught on her legs.

“Fucking the adrenaline away is incredibly effective,” he said, his lips claiming hers again, just as he ripped the fabric the rest of the way.

“I thought you said fucking was for anger management?” Madison panted, then cried out when his fingers found her.

Alex huffed a dark laugh against her throat, his tongue flicking over her pulse. “That, too.”

She reached between them, tearing at his belt and zipper as Alex’s teeth scraped against the shell of her ear.

“Never do that to me again, Angel.”

Madison didn’t have time to respond before he lifted her and slammed her down onto him in one fluid motion. Her breath caught, nails digging into his forearms, as he filled her completely.

“Almost had a heart attack when I saw you,” Alex muttered. “Never again. Understood?” he repeated, his grip tightening on her when she didn’t answer.

She barely managed a nod, the pleasure already taking over, making her mind foggy.

“Good.” Alex dragged his lips down the column of her throat as he shoved her cardigan off her shoulders. His hands found the scooped neckline of her dress, and when it wouldn’t budge he yanked hard, stitches popping.

Madison gasped as the air hit her skin before his lips closed over one tight peak. His tongue flicked against it, then he bit down—just hard enough to send a sharp zing of pleasure straight to her core. The wet heat of his mouth turned her into a trembling mess, even as he thrust up harder into her.

His breath was hot against her damp skin when he murmured, “Come for me, Angel.”

Fireworks exploded behind her eyelids, and Alex’s arms banded around her tightly, pulling her against his chest as his body flexed beneath her. His guttural groan sent a final pulse of pleasure through her.

She lay limp against him for a moment, his hand lazily skating up and down her spine. Moving her hair over her shoulder, he leaned down to place a tender kiss on her collar bone.

“Earlier,” Alex rasped. “When I saw you in the doorway, I thought… Okay, this is it.”

Madison tried to lift her head to look at him, but Alex kept his hand firm against her hair holding her head down.

“This is where it ends.” His voice was quiet, and she had to strain to make out the words over her heartbeat. “Because if any of them had pulled a gun after seeing yours, I would have shot them without hesitation.”

The stroking had resumed, but Madison stayed perfectly still, her heart ready to burst. She felt lips against the top of her hair. “I need you to understand… It’s not just words when I say I’ll keep you safe.”

His voice was so low she could feel it vibrate through her breasts. “If I’m with you, the only way anyone could ever hurt you is if I’m already dead.” His lips brushed against her hair again. “And that hasnothingto do with any deal we made.”

Chapter Forty-One

There had been a moment when Madison stood in his office doorway, eyes wide with fear, that Alex thought he would have to kill his brother. It had been a moment of such clarity he’d known in an instant, that if Mikhail or one of his guards pointed a gun at her, he would have killed Mikhail first and then died trying to get her to safety.

And by the look in his brother’s eyes, Mikhail had known it, too.

Maybe that had assuaged whatever doubts Mikhail still held about their marriage and the validity of it. That kiss and words of welcome… Madison may not have understood the weight of Mikhail’s actions, but every other member in the bratva would, when they heard about it.

After he’d ruined Madison’s dress, she had swiftly changed into a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved T-shirt while he called Liev. Her hair was still a mess, and her lips were swollen.

She looked gorgeous.

With a quick knock, Liev stepped inside, his gaze flicking between Alex and Madison, picking up on in the tension immediately.

“You rang?” Liev leaned casually against the doorframe. His tone was light, but his eyes were sharp.

Alex didn’t waste time. “We have a problem,” he said, his voice clipped. “I need proof Armstrong is behind the articles that came out today. Find out who they got their information from. There were too many details for it to be an outsider.”

Liev’s smile faded. “Got it.”
